Re: What Happened to Maurice Reviol?
Hello everyone... I just came across this and thought I might as well clarify what happens here at the moment. Yes, Busy times indeed and lockdowns and simply less airtraffic coming and going to New Zealand has changed things a wee bit to say the least. Covid as such was not such a big deal, with su...

Re: Is best flutes when it is loved by nice flutists?
Hi Terry, nice to hear from you and I couldn't have said it better. I always tell people to trust their senses and play as many flutes as possible to find the one that fits them and don't heed too much attention to the name on the barrel, more to do with Concert Flutes where I don't have a stake in ...

Re: Looking for a keyed flute!
Hello, I am not often here so it's more a coincidence that I saw that. Perhaps a shameless plug, but I have a nice 6 keyed African blackwood flute here that I finished just recently. That comes with a nice Lichtenberg figure adorned wooden case that is a true sign of the times as it was made during ...

Re: Somers Pratten, Delrin, D Flute/ w 8 Maruice Reviol Keys
Hello! I am hardly ever here on this forum. I am still adding keys to flutes, the price is more or less the same, with a slight change to the price for Silver plated keys. The company that did the plating for me over the last 15 years closed down and the new plating company is more expensive. So, Si...

Re: Ontario, Canada fluters, Re: Lost/Stolen flutes
Hi, I'm sorry to hear that!... I have here a Brazilian Kingwood flute on the records with Serial No.78 that has 4 keys and I just checked my email records and, yes, it's African Blackwood with Serial No.124 and one of the special head plugs with Paua ring and Silver disc... I hope it turns up again....

Re: Buying a low whistle
Hi, does MK now use also a blasted finish? I am a bit out of touch, as I frankly speaking haven't got the time to follow everything what's going on...I'm only here on this forum about three four times a year, for lack of time... I must try a Brass body then, I think I have the right tubing here that...

Re: Buying a low whistle
Hi, I saw Brass Barrel mentioned...just to clarify, do you mean the tuning slide part of the whistle, or is that the complete lower body made from Brass? To use Brass in the tuning slide shouldn't be a problem at all. It would be thinner walled than Aluminium to counter the weight, but since it's st...

Re: Whistles with 2+ octaves
Hi, I made a batch of A bodies that fit into the fipple that is used in my Low E, F and G whistles. Technically, the diameter should be smaller to have a better ratio between length and diameter. But I tried it out and it seems to work fine. With those A bodies, I usually offer that people try them ...

Re: Roller keys?
Hi... I could do roller keys. My conventional wooden flute Low C/C# key design is based on a Böhm design, but has the Eb on separate posts to accommodate the different notehole layout on a wooden flute and that has a roller key as Low C key push. Adding rollers is not that difficult, key touches lik...

Re: Not So Low, Low Whistle Key.
Hi, I use 25mm OD x 1.6mm wall for my Low C, D and Eb whistles and 22.2 x 1.42 wall for my Low E, F and G (and I made some A bodies from that too...but the high register is somewhat subdued...to big a bore I'd say) hope that helps... I find Aluminium tubing can vary quite a bit...and I am not sure i...

Re: Which low G?
Hi,
I'm not that often here on this forum, mainly because of my lack of time, but I thought I blow my own whistle in this case...
I have Low Gs readily available and I can offer to send one over, you try it out and see if you like it, if not, simply return it...
All the best,
Maurice Reviol

Re: Vacuum resin infused flutes
Hi, although my flutes are not vacuum infused, the whole idea is, to provide the inside with the benefits of a resin flute with the appearance of a wooden flute and reduced weight compared to a complete Acetal/Delrin flute. The resin is rather thin and immerses deep into the timber even without the ...

True, African Blackwood and Cocus propably too (haven't used cocus myself...) don't really need oiling, they are pre-oiled by nature really. i just use some Danish oil there to bring out the colour...

Re: Varnishing Flutes
Hi, it depends what timber I use... On some I use just oils, that means I start with tung oil and then finish with Danish oil and furniture wax to polish it. On others, I use (after sanding up to 1200 and 0000 wire wool in grain direction) Cellulose Sanding sealer, that I thinned down with nitro cel...
