The first side-blown flute I ever played was Erik's Vivaldi Minor. Within a week I got the breath control down. Those three flutes are on my wish list, but I'm getting the Oriental first. Either way, you can't go wrong with Erik.

Reminds me of my first performance...It was almost a year ago, I had just started playing whistle. I had just bought a C whistle at the Cleveland Irish Festival and was playing "Down by the Sally Gardens"(the only song I knew) for my dad. When I finished, two people nearby clapped. That wa...

I'm still lurking around as well. I make sure to play every day. I'm getting confident enough to try some jigs, no reels yet, although I'm working on Tam Lin. I've got a ton of recordings from Clips and Snips and other websites that I keep on my mp3 player. I find it helps me learn tunes better. I u...

There's a freeware notation software called Finale Notepad. You could write your little piece in that, print it, and then scan it back on OR use the "print screen" key on the keyboard. Either way, then paste the picture into word and crop it. Unfortunately, I don't remember the website I g...

There's something similar to this at the Great Lakes Science Center in Cleveland. The one there is tuned to a regular scale though, so potentially you could play music. I usually just go up and down the scale :D .

Seems like many of you could find a way to a session at least once. I have yet to get a car, or even my license :D . The only way I'll get to a session is if my parents actually agree to drive me, and if I can find one that's not on a weeknight (though that won't be a problem soon). We all have our ...

Unfortunately I don't play in any bands, but I do hear a lot of whistle in some of the groups I listen to. It's part of what drove me to whistle in the first place :D .
