Re: Why Eb not D# (flute key names)

Re: Identify this chanter
Yep, I have a cheap Pakistani chanter somewhere, different design but also played bang in tune with the first random spare reed I pulled out of the reject box. The keys were uncomfortable but it wasn’t bad, not sure if it had been reworked

Yep, Sam’s a friend, I asked him earlier on and he couldn’t remember exactly what he did with your B but I’ll tell him you’re happy with it, good to know

Ginsberg B reed?
Hi, has anyone reeded, or plays, a Ginsberg B chanter? I’m looking for a reed or reed dimensions, to reduce the guesswork

It’s really not ‘extremely rare’. It is what it is, a very nice Eb whistle from a well-known and very popular maker.

Re: Quick review of Chris Wilkes keyless Rudall
It’s not often you’d get a maker to cut a hole in another maker’s flute, let alone a Wilkes, does Chris know?

Re: Buying a flute to try out restoration
I have a mid-nineteenth century English 8 key cocos flute, with metal lip plate and wide ferrule rings. It should fix up fine with some work and play in tune. I picked it up for similar purpose but never got around to it. There’s the usual type of crack through head and barrel, one of the key pins i...

Re: Golden Years At Rudall & Rose
The player will have more influence than the flute and you’d have to play quite a sample to generalise. I have a very early (c1821) R&R that I think is great across its range (if possibly a bit low pitched) but I use a replacement head as the original embouchure is either a bit rough or has been...
