Patrick Hennelly chanter

Hi, I've a Patrick Hennelly chanter to reed. I assume that it is a Patrick Hennelly chanter because it's stamped PH and very much in the Taylor style. Anyone reeded a Hennelly chanter before and want to share the specs....
Thanks EJ

Re: 30th Dutch Tionól

But I don't think you even half realise how true to form, to my ears, both your original posting and on top of that your responses are. And that's exactly what, against my better judgement, prompted the response. You don't care about the nuance of it. My point exactly. The sentence that triggered y...

Re: 30th Dutch Tionól

Ah yes, aggressive ill-conceived sarcasm, more than a whiff of begrudgery and a drop of ad-hominem. Wow 'begrudgery' had to look that one up... and some latin, 'ad-hominem' on top of that, impressive. Why do you think you achieved success or wealth and why do you think I care? But I'll stop with th...

Re: 30th Dutch Tionól

NVUP celebrates 30 years of uilleann piping in The Netherlands Equating NVUP's anniversary to the anniversary of 'uilleann piping in the Netherlands' is a bit of a grand statement, isn't it? They hardly introduced it into the low countries. You're absolutely right Mr.Gumby the NVUP didn't introduce...

30th Dutch Tionól

It's almost that time of the year again.... 30th Dutch Tionól Celebration! This year from the 19th to the 21st of September the NVUP celebrates 30 years of uilleann piping in The Netherlands. Over the years we've had many distinguished guests and we are lucky enough to be able to ask some of them ba...

Geoff Wooff full set in D for sale

Geoff Wooff full set in D for sale. I'm not the seller just passing on the message because the seller (Hille van der Heide) doesn't have the interweb thingy. The set probably need new reeds at least, I haven't seen the set in years and the current owner didn't play it much due to health problems, PM...

Re: A Question for the reed makers out there....

By 'symmetrical,' do you mean the thickness of the lips? Arbo p.s. My eyesight isn't what it used to be. So, what do people use to aid in thes manner. I don't know what a 'loupe' is. A loupe (pron.: /ˈluːp/ loop) is a simple, small magnification device used to see small details more closely. Unlike...

Re: A Question for the reed makers out there....

What often is overlooked are the tips of the lips of the reed, are they really symmetrical?
Take a jeweler's loupe and have a good look especially at the corners.
Sand till they are symmetrical and many problems can be cured including auto crans

Re: The Taylor Sound?

And I can identify with the tales of blue tack and wire, having had several desperate attempts to get a Tayloresque chanter in tune with itself at modern concert pitch. This might be true but it doesn't mean always that the chanter is to blame. I had a Williams chanter send to me to reed and there ...

Re: The Taylor Sound?

I believe it was you, Pat, who once described the sound of pipes as "a bandsaw going through a duck". I don't think either phrase would describe this Taylor set: In 1998 Tommy McCarthy was over for the Dutch Tionol and he did bring his Taylor chanter. He was so kind to let me (and others)...

Re: And yet another pipemaker...

[quote='Cast' means melting brass (or another metal) till it's liquid and pour it in a mold of a key. Let it cool down again and 'voila' you have a key. Thanks for the explanation, I think that is much more difficult to make a perfect mold than to file and shape and get a perfect finish to a solder...

Re: And yet another pipemaker...

I`m sorry but I don`t understand the language about "cast" what it means? that you forge the keys? or that you shape them cutting and filing? Thanks 'Cast' means melting brass (or another metal) till it's liquid and pour it in a mold of a key. Let it cool down again and 'voila' you have a...
