Resale value of Arie de Keyzer Concert chanter

I have an Arie de Keyzer concert chanter that I haven't played for years, and which I no longer need as I have a Rogge full set. It seems a shame to leave it lying in a drawer, even though it is not currently reeded. Would anyone care to suggest how much it might sell for? It's in African blackwood ...

Re: bombarde anyone?

[ Thread revival. - Mod ] Someone who plays the bombarde is called a talabarderien. A talabarderien never plays alone because he/she must have regular breathing pauses. It takes a lot, lot more breath than a whistle. A talabarderien can play in sequence with another talabarderien, where they altern...

Re: Household products useful to a piper.

Double sided tape has a googolplex of uses ,apart from my wife using it when wearing low cut dresses to stop her boobs poping out,.I use it to make sanding boards of different grits by sticking the sandpaper to pieces of 1/4 inch MDF. Viola . RORY I trust yourself and herself store your supplies of...

Liam O'Flynn is definitely the person to watch before you develop posture habits.

I unfortunately tried to sit like Paddy Keenan as he sat 40 years ago, but on the edge of my seat. Still trying to undo the damage.

Is it possible that the deceased demonstrated such a case of WhOA without being a member here? Anyone we know?

Re: An experiment with playing a reel as a slow air.... sort of.

It's called "playing a tune the piece way". Delighted you have done this, it's one of my hobby-horses that people nowadays only do it with a handful of tunes which have been recorded by older pipers in this way. Any tune is amenable to the treatment, and it provides an opportunity for pers...

@ceolmochroi has just tweeted a few photos of Séamus as a sweet-looking little boy. He could be generous, but he had his character flaws.

Re: Bone whistle from the shores of Lake Geneva

Did I understand correctly that you're referring to the Jeff Barbe video? The website indicates that it's a bone flute, and that he's playing the original. The colour would appear to be due to ageing. As far as I know, "Charavines" is used loosely among non-archaeologists to refer to all t...

Thanks for the warning re authenticity, Yuri. I added the link as an afterthought just to illustrate how much music one can get with just three toneholes.

Re: Bone whistle from the shores of Lake Geneva

Here's a clip I found while searching for more information on medieval bone whistles: http://www.apemutam.org/spip.php?article80 . The musician is a flute-maker specialising in "non-standard" instruments, and the clip is on a site dedicated to medieval instruments. The flute is side-blown ...

Re: Bone whistle from the shores of Lake Geneva

Updates and corrections. The ring was examined by the museum in Geneva but was returned to the owner. The inscription is on the inner surface, in "Gothic" script, but is in French: it says "vous me tiens" (spelling to be checked). The other noteworthy find of which I was unaware ...

Thanks for that link. Bitter-sweet, painful memories, but glad Catherine and Christopher Ennis were willing to let them be recorded and broadcast.
