I personally find tunes that have scales rather than arpeggios to be easier for me to play. In other words, although it might on the surface look like a challenging tune, if much of it is more like scales than arpeggios I seem capable of mastering it much easier. Examples: Planxty Brabazon Rose in t...

I am late to the party but I just read the book.

I was confused about how Voldemort got out of the hideout under the tree. He seemed to have just simply floated out, and that was weird to me.

I don't know how it's spelled and I never knew how it was pronounced. At our session the tip jar (for the employees) next to the cash register has a little sign on it that says something like "Crackheads are a pain in the rear - Lay off the pipe (You know who you are)." Not sure what I'd t...

All of this is bird-related. The big white chicken would have found a way to destroy a plastic flute as surely as a wooden one. The breakage is due to me trying to put it in a "safe place" in time to prevent the big chicken from turning it into mulch.

Birds! Who needs 'em?

Thank you all so much. Jon, I am going to ask around and see if the violin-maker in town can fix it. Otherwise, I think you are next-closest to me. You know how much we Santa Barbaran's love to drive south. I will email you. This is why I didn't buy a fancy-schmancy expensive flute. I ruin everythin...

My flute broke

It fell from the table and landed on our tile floor. I didn't see the crack. I brought it to the session to play but no sound would come out. I thought maybe the threads were loose so I wrapped some dental floss around it. When I put it back together that's when I saw the crack in the head joint. Wh...

I don't have cats. I have birds. I have Green Bird or Blue-headed Green Bird (real name is Fergie - a blue-crowned conure) White Bird or Big Chicken (real name is Ariel - an umbrella cockatoo) Squeaky (real name is Squeaky - the only animal I ever named right on the first try) Unlike cats who can't ...

Sometimes if I can remember the B part, or just part of it, that does help me remember the whole tune. I'm afraid even having it memorized isn't all that helpful either, because I'm still using my faulty memory. In other words, just humming it to myself I'll still get the parts of different tunes mi...

My flute has threads, not cork, and Casey says he uses the wax used to install toilets. It's not clear from his care sheet if you are supposed to wax them yourself from time-to-time, and I do wonder how one acquires a small amount of toilet wax rather than the enormous chunk normally used for toilet...

My Casey Burns Folk Flute is heavier than my silver flute. And I seem to get more pain holding it than I do holding my silver one. Just for the weight it might not be the best choice for someone with arthritis. I managed to find a used Gemeinhardt conservatory flute for $45 for sale locally with cra...

The Irish flute has brought me back to music from a multi-decade hiatus. There was a small break in the middle where I attempted Old-time fiddle, but once I learned I wouldn't have to keep struggling with a fiddle to play music, I got me a flute again. I recently pulled out my old-time fiddle book. ...

Hard time remembering

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is trying to learn these tunes but having trouble remembering them. Any tips? I have a really hard time remembering because of what is supposed to make remembering simple: the repeated phrases. I get stuck in them and can't remember the way out. Also, I have a hard ...
