Re: Syn Whistle Review: Complete Set

Hi Tucson, problem is not that a d-head won't fit a c, but the story gets different with eg. an f and bflat. The difference between the volume of the two with the same boresize, is huge.

There's a thread about Kwela, where you can download 2 beautiful cd's. And I have 3 of Ian's whistles, a D, Bb and C. Beautiful instruments!

Re: Which Whistle for non-Irish music

I have an Overton low D whistle I'll never part with. It's got the haunting, earthly sound you describe and is comparable to what you mention concerning Dead Can Dance (still amazing music!!!): www.colingoldie.de. It is the most beautiful whistle sound ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzHaaAu44o...

My Bernard Overton Low D, restored by Colin Goldie is one I'll never part with. Also my new model Impempe high D is a jewel because of its very specific characteristics.

Re: Kerry pro and Overton

Kerry and Chieftain are from the same makers and NOT handmade. Goldie whistles are the new names for Overton whistles, and they ARE handmade. I know the very precise work that's done with every Goldie whistle (Colin told me it took him 14 hours per whistle). Colin finetunes every hole from the insid...

It's from november 2006. I'm the trader. It's a good whistle for a very good price, I only got the chance of getting the new style whistle.

Re: A newcomer needs you !

You might consider Dixon or Impempe, good whistles and easy blowers for around €40,- but sounding like very expensive whistles. I have 3 Impempes (D, C and Bb), handmade whistles from Ian Turnbull, South Africa, €40 to €45 a piece I will never let go, beautiful looking, very good sound, very easy to...

Re: Katie

The whistle can be very soothing for small but also big children. It is beautiful. My 9-year old son still asks me to play when he gets a bath, (and the whistle sounds best in bathrooms). He feels at ease then. Sometimes I play some soft melodies to fall asleep. All 3 of my children have grown up li...

Re: The Impempe Whistle: Review & Recording, and Photos

Nothing too much said! The beauties arrived today! Three of them, D, C and Bb. They have improved SO much. They are tunable to start with, but most whistles are nowadays. The appearance, nothing is to be said more than the photo's. They are other whistles, better looking and much lighter in weight (...

37. What else can you do wrong? Get yourself no good teacher if possible (tought me more in 5 lessons than I did on my own in 2 years) or at least no good online tutor.

Re: Easiest playing LowD?

I have a Bernard Overton, not an easy player, but I know that Colin Goldie, maker of Overton whistles (now Goldie whistles) can make easy blowers and can adjust to wishes. I also played an Alba low D once, quite an easy blower. And as for Burke, if the low's are as comfortable as the high's, then yo...
