I'll put in a good word for the Melody's folk -- I've been in their shop (it's almost local, being on the other side of Houston) several times over the last few weeks (buying a Dusty Strings Ravenna 26 harp -- but that's a different story!). Great people there -- I think that if there's a problem, i...

1. In any argument, the victor is always right. 2. "Yea" can be turned to "nay", and vice versa, if a proper amount of verbage is applied. 3. Though the pen be mightier than the sword, the sword speaks louder and stronger at any given moment. (Loosely quoted from "The Mouse ...

Odd. I've live in the southeast/south central US all my life (42 years spent mostly in South Carolina and lately Texas). I don't recall ever being asked to remove my shoes or being in a house where there was evidence that it was expected or desired... We have 4 kids (ages 6 to 13) who like to play o...

I'll have to vote Humphrey too, although my whistle collection is mostly cheapies (so I don't know much about most of the high-end ones). I do like my Burke narrow bore brass, but I keep coming back to my Humphrey for most of my playing.

Hmmm, sounds more like he _doesn't_ play recorder... I've played recorder for a number of years (I'd guess around 4 or 5, seriously) and whistle for about 1 now, and thoroughly enjoy both. Although I do play recorder by ear (quite a lot) I still see it as a bit more "structured" tha...

I have a brass C narrow bore -- it has a somewhat muted sound to it and can be played relatively quietly compared to some whistles I have. I haven't heard the session bore for comparison, though.

I'd never be able to perform them in public. I'd hate people to think I was putting on airs.

I once watched our gray tabby ("Boots", after his white feet) take off after a squirrel in our back yard. The squirrel headed for the nearest tree with the cat hot on his tail, but stopped a few feet up the trunk. The cat was so busy chasing he forgot to do any actual catching, and ended u...

I'd guess it has to do with surface tension. Analogous to a rain drop, in which the surface tension goes up toward infiinity as the drop diameter goes toward zero -- this is why rain drops tend to form around dust particles instead of out by themselves (and leave your car looking dusty after a rain)...

Er, well, except for the freshwater sharks (e.g. Lake Nicaragua shark, river shark, etc.). OK, OK, that was just nitpicky. It's a Monday.
