Re: Flute suggestions for a wee beginner

Consider the delrin flute without rings from this page:

http://www.copleyflutes.com/catalog.html

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better flute for the price. It's also perfect in that delrin is very forgiving and will not crack or break if dropped. Excellent sounding flutes for the price!

Re: Question about Olwell flutes

Good things come to those who wait, an Olwell flute is a perfect example of that. For the less patient as Loren said above, buy the used one. There are other makers in the U.S. too who may have only a couple month wait, Dave Copley and John Gallagher come to mind, and both make very nice flutes. I o...

Re: How many keys do you have? And how many do you use?

If you do a simple search you will find tons of posts related to the topic. My advice is if you can afford it, get a 6 or 8 keyed flute. They are capable of all you need them to do and in the event you ever want to sell the flute it will be easier to do so. You also won't have the regret of wishing ...

eBay: Violin by Luke Degner c.1998 7/19 DONE

Selling an excellent fiddle on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Luke-Degner-1998-4-4-Violin-/261967826843?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cfe7fcf9b Will most definitely sell for less off ebay since it saves on seller's fees. Need the cash to fund a flute that is nearly done but will consider a part...

FS: 1998 Luke Degner Violin

Selling my main fiddle to fund an upcoming flute that is nearing completion. I listed it on ebay but would be glad to sell off ebay as well(and for a lower price because I won't be paying seller's fees). It's a great instrument made by Luke Degner in 1998. You can see the full details in the ebay de...

Re: Double frankenflute (R&R) reunion!

Glad the pieces can be joined in holy matrimony again lol. It's quite a bit of luck for such a thing to happen but you can tell even in its current state it will be a lovely flute. There's something about Rudall flutes, they just have a whole lot of magic in them. My main flute is a copy of an old l...

Re: Custom ear plugs

I've been using these for about 7 years now: http://www.sensaphonics.com/er-series-musician-earplugs-custom I never had luck with cheapo earplugs, they either hurt my ear canal or simply didn't work. I use these and the great thing is I can pop different decibel filters in depending on if I'm at hom...

Re: Pratten Perfected by Boosey in F (are they rare?)

Here's a link to a video of the flute: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hLNc9jKs9U The key cup style wasn't my request, that's John's main style now. It's a neat look, it reminds me of some of the very early Rudall flutes. The foam pads work great, I very much prefer them over leather pads. They sea...

Re: Pratten Perfected by Boosey in F (are they rare?)

I'm the owner of this Boosey in F copy(with some changes to optimize tuning and playing) by John Gallagher. It's a real screamer and after years of wanting a good flute in the key of F I found it all that and more in this one. The mopane has since darkened considerably and the tone has gotten even b...

Re: Bansuri and Irish Flute

I think you may be referring to a G bass bansuri, not a D bass. G bass would be three holes closed G, or all holes closed D. That is the same as an Irish flute as far as fingering however you will find that the bansuri is not optimized to cross finger for the C natural and as a result you may have t...

Your username implies you are in the Midwest, where abouts? I'm over in Madison, WI and play, teach, and build quena. If you ever get over this way I can help you out. I also know of a few players in Chicago and an excellent player in northern Indiana. For a basic no frills but good playing quena th...

Re: Have Olwell Prattens, what next?

I'd recommend an F flute, they are absolutely a pleasure to play. John Gallagher makes a fantastic one(he made mine keyed one), and so does Dave Copley(he made my keyless one). An F flute paired with bouzouki is about the most heavenly sound I can think of. They play so easily and really have a punc...
