I've always loved that tune. I thought that it needed to be played on a harp or another instrument that can play chords. Your version shows me that I was wrong.
Thank you.

This is folk music. The best thing you can do is to figure out the songs and tunes that you know and love best. Take your favorite songs and/or tunes that you've been singin from childhood and figure out how to play them on the whistle. If you can sing it or hear it in your head, you should be able ...

Sometimes, when this happens to me, I find it fun to just twiddle around. Forget about playing tunes or songs. Forget about cuts, strikes, rolls and cranns. Just blow through the sucker and let your fingers do what they feel like doing. I've found that when everything I play sounds like s**t to me, ...

That said, I'm still a proponent of medium-velocity, purposeful playing. The soul of these tunes is in the nuances that are lost if playing them becomes an aerobic workout exercise. I like to play in sessions that stay moderate in speed, with some diversity in style and tempo to spice things up. Th...

As a whistle player, I'm still at the slow and careful practice stage but I've been playing fiddle tunes on guitar and mandolin for many years. I've never had much luck with starting slow and slowly ramping up the speed like most people recommend. I reach a barrier where no amount of practice can br...

Thanks for all the input. The funny thing is that in a lot of ways I thnk I'm playing the whistle better than I ever have before. Five or six years of playing fiddle tunes on mandolin and guitar have given me a much better feeling for how these tunes should sound. Also, although I mainly play Americ...

Hey, That Scotland the Brave is just awesome. I love the ornamentation. I would like to point out, for anybody that doesn't know, that the range of the Highland Bagpipes is from G to the A an octave above--9 notes. Without trying it beforehand, I would expect that on a D whistle it would work out a ...

Hello I just found this site and registered and I'd like to introduce myself. I used to play whistle quite a bit back in the '70's and early 80's. While I can't honestly say I was any good, I was able to entertain myself and people didn't go running out of the room with their hands over their ears w...
