Re: Banjo's ???????
Hi Norm, I tend to prefer the fuller tone of flat head tenor banjos over the tone of archtops. B&D Silverbells are wonderful, but fairly costly. And vintage 1920s Vegas are wonderful too, built really sturdy, reasonably priced as great vintage banjos go, and relatively easy to find. I've had mor...

Re: Cocobolo Irish Flute - Erik The Flutemaker??
I must be one of the lucky ones. I've got a Brazilian rosewood flute I've owned and played for decades with no problem. But then I'm aware of the risks of a lot of woods and don't take many chances beyond Rosewood, Blackwood, and Boxwood.

Re: flute volume
This might sound odd, but sometimes when I need more volume I direct my wind flow a little more to the left, back up into the flute head towards the set cork. But not too drastically. FWIW.

I'd second the Mack Hoover Whitecap on a Generation tube. Inexpensive with a good strong headpiece and a very nice tone.

Once you realize how little air it takes, this whistle is exceedingly easy to play.

Re: Shipping a Chieftain to the UK to be recorked
If you took a notion to do the project yourself, could buy a small amount of cork, a tube of contact cement, some fingernail polish remover, roll of packing tape, a small pack of single edge razor blades and a sheet of 300-400 grit sandpaper for around $12. You could probably find the cork from a lo...

Re: Flute don't calm me down!
In seriousness... when I'm feeling anger or anxiety or tension, my guitar seems to be the only instrument that gives me a sense of calm. It's not so much what I'm playing on it, I think, as it is the combination of the tone and sound and the hand action of playing it and holding it. It often seems t...

Re: Flute don't calm me down!
Maybe there's a reason why certain instruments are associated with relaxation, peace, celestial harmony, beauty, angels, heaven, spirituality, etc... i.e. flutes and harps... ...as opposed to instruments like fiddles, banjos, and accordions --all associated with the torments of hell. The devil's ins...

Re: O'Neill's Music of Ireland - Is There A Whistle Edition?
I checked the Mulvihill book --the ABCs are not in the same order and incomplete. There are 513 tunes in the book and 92 ABCs listed online.
