I got out of my car and my generation F fell out of my pocket and rolled to the center of the street. Another car came by and ran it over :x . I kept it in my case for a while. When people saw it there with my other whistles and asked me what it was, I would tell them it was my Fb. I guess my wife t...

I made a case for my Low D out of PVC and Pipe insulation. I also glued a little container on the cap to hold some vasoline. I put my whistle in a velvet bag, then slip it into the case. Anyway, pictures are better. See: http://sessionite.com/page.php?in=91 I have attached a strap to it at one time ...

I forgot to mention that it was that stumbling into the meeting that got me started in the music. The sounds and friendship won me over.

Getting back to the real question: Do you have any praises to sing regarding the resource Comhaltas has been for your local music scene. I stumbled into a evening at a Comhaltas branch and have been more or less attending as time permits. It seems to have its strengths and weakeness as one would exp...

I guess I may have been a little defensive. Perhaps niether of us like to have the sessions we enjoy mischaracterized. I, too, enjoy sessions of peers (I like that term). We oftimes have closed sessions or house sessions of invited musicians. They are great fun and very fulfilling. We also have open...

There are a lot of typical attitudes of that session revealed in the last post and I was going to comment on some of them. But rather let me just say this.... because we invite beginners does not make it a beginners session just as the Ann Arbor's session is not a kid's session because you allow kids.

"The others in the area are more for beginners" Actually, because they are friendly, they welcome everyone. Of course beginners will show up. We also make sure that everyone gets to play whatever level. The Ann Arbor session doesn't share that reputation. Also, the other sessions can go ti...

Where? Same place the coffee, pipe, glasses, cell phone, etc would go. Why would a whistle be more hazardous? Its not like the whistle is aimed at the air bag.

This picture represents poor "driving while whistling" technique.

I keep a cheap one in my car. It is black so I can play it going down the road and no one will know what I am doing.

Burke

I was truly amazed at the personal service I got thru emails from him. They were prompt and helpful. I have a great Low D and am saving my pennies to buy some more stuff. Highly recommended.

Notebook

I am approaching 300 tunes. I don't know how I would do it if I didn't keep a running list. I am able to go thru the list just about every week to keep fresh. I work pretty hard on the tunes and would hate to have them slip away just because I forgot that I knew them!

Be Ready

First, I keep a list of all the tunes I know. When it grows significantly, I print it out and keep it with me. I also keep a whistle with me at all times. Many opportunities come up where I can play. Today, for example, I sat in the car waiting for my wife to do the Christmas shopping. I went thru a...
