I haven't been to many Fleadhs, but none of my teachers stared firmly at us watching or correcting our posture. They rather listened to us, trying to spot relevant issues with a concentrate look at the space. Hey, you were listening, weren't you? Well, to tell the truth, Breandan O'Hare once t...

Hi Margaret, just a quick remark, maybe I'm wrong. If we are talking about a wooden whistle it's good you bear in mind that humidity conditions are poorer in summer. Your whistle may be under-hydrated and the loosening of the fipple could be a similar phenomenon as loose metal rings in a flute. It t...

Thanks for the diagram, Rafa. That helps immensely. My question would be, because the three B's would cross an invisible bar-line, and I want to accent the third B, would this be the best way to do that? You're most welcome. I think you could use glottal stop or tongueing to stress the last B. Ther...

I'd say you need a roll for the three B's. First, a brief introduction: O = open Hole X= closed Hole XXX XXX = Flute with six holes closed (from left to right in case you are right handed) You got it? Then you can try to do this to separate the B's: XOO OOO OOO OOO XOO OOO XXO OOO XOO OOO It works r...

Brendan, the second jig is called "I shall wean her", John Williams' rendition of this beautiful jig in his CD 'Steam' is touching. Thanks for posting this one. I find stuff to work with in it. I've always heard it called "I ne'er shall wean her" That's right William. I think sh...

It happens the same to me, William. My grip is far from orthodox. I play on the shoulder, worst of all is that my left hand grip (I'm right-handed) is terrible, I've seen nobody holding the flute like that. The point is that I sometimes -it depends on the day- press too much with the left thumb, it'...

Britanny

Hi there, We're maybe going to Britanny this summer. I'd like to know if booking ahead is mandatory for this time of the year? We've travelled to Ireland and Scotland several times, no bookings, no problem ever, more freedom to stay wherever you fancy. Does anyone know if it works more or less the s...

Cocus, it sounds primitively charming, great fun and sort of unique experience. I'd like to join to the list, but it's hard to arrange dates at work.

But most of all, it's a generous, friendly offer. Thanks

Rgds

Agreed, very stable, in fact, more than the vast majority of the scooters out there. I'm a happy owner of a Vespa 200 (not a classic yet, but getting near thanks to her 19 years of daily loyal and reliable service.) I tried the double front wheel model and got surprised about the curves behaviour. F...

Fine choice. I've always liked both of them. To tell the truth, I've always enjoyed polkas, ssssh, don't tell to your reel-rippers sessionmates  I should try to refresh them.

Viva! I'm not thinking of a new flute though. I have plenty to deal with my current one for -let's say- several lives. It's just that there's sort of excitement with Glenn's work in Spain. I know at least 3 guys waiting instruments from Mr. Watson. He makes great flutes and to my short acquintance w...

They say something about Australia, but it's actually somwhere further up Ullapool, Scotland. Some Hieland Gathering, I guess.
