Re: Decent cheap, small piano accordion?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpRFgBw-b9o (not sure if this is a salt or the castagnari one, which is heavier and even more expensive than the salt) That's a Clifden. The Castagnari Magica is harder to come by and often has a wetter tuning, destined for the German market. It does however have 3 se...

Re: Decent cheap, small piano accordion?

The Clifden has absolutely exquisite reeds on the treble end, with are a joy to behold. But the lack of bass couplers on the standard model and the tonal qualities of the relatively small chamber on the bass end make this a far less attractive instrument. I would have a serious look at a swing tuned...

Re: Recording devices for sessions

I'm regularly using an (albeit 4 channel and more expensive) Edirol unit for location recording.

Has fairly decent enough pre-amps, good onboard mics, and it is far more sturdy in terms of buttons and overall construction than any Zoom I've tried.

Re: Low F Whistle quest

I would thoroughly recommend getting a Susato to tide you over, since the tuning should be pretty spot on throughout the range of the instrument. I would save up for a tunable Goldie F. Just discuss your requirements with Colin before ordering and then he will also give you a choice of instruments b...

Re: How do Chieftain, Overton and MK compare? (clogging/tone)

Incidentally, for what it's worth, I don't think that the original poster meant to offend or cast aspersions with his thinking aloud. On the question of clogging, it is true that the designs with very narrow wind ways do require warming up and playing in, but it is this very feature that contributes...

Re: How do Chieftain, Overton and MK compare? (clogging/tone)

I've personally owned all three makes mentioned in the original post, but two of three just didn't cut it in terms of intonation for me. One of the makers even refused to take a whistle back for adjustment because I had bought it second hand and he was sure that I was not experienced enough to comme...

Re: Can someone recommend a good effects processor?

+1 for SM57, but I would also consider the Beta 57 if you can stretch to it.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE buy from an authorised dealer as many offered on e**y are, in fact, fakes originating from the far east.

Re: Can someone recommend a good effects processor?

I highly recommend the TC Helicon Create pedal. It has Reverb, Delay (with tap tempo) and modulation effects. XLR in and out and in addition it has phantom power if you decide to use a condenser microphone. It is also very small and rugged. This sounds like the type of thing you need. TC have a sol...

I've sent the seller a message to suggest the listing be changed to reflect the fact that it's not an Overton!!

I find MPEG Streamclip best for this on Mac OSX - a standalone application that's very easy to use. None of the online processing involved with some of the other methods mentioned....

Re: Irish Washerwoman

The tune is used in the iconic Tom & Jerry cartoon - Mouse Cleaning

Scott Bradley cleverly arranges it to appear in several different forms throughout the action. Quite entertaining.
