What is this thing about vitamin E in the oil?
I have never heard that recommend before.
I did know that olive oil for example, could become bad, when used for anything other than cooking.
But I thought that almond oil was used, since it would not "go bad" in the same way.

Re: Any fancy metronome app recommendations (android)?
I have used the ‘bodhran metronome' from YouTube as well. It works pretty good and is in a lot of tempis.
It is usually in Jig and Reel mode on YouTube, as much as I can find.
Not many for Hornpipes I think.

Re: Flute Embrochure
I really liked the replies to this thread. The embuchure, is a thing that I am working on as well, as a new flute player. From what I read and experience, it seems much like @cyberknight said Everyone has to find it for themselves, I suppose. I am looking very much forward to read more general advic...

Re: Uilleann Pipe chanter... Same method?
Each hole is only responsible for one note on Highland chanters, but on Uilleann chanters most holes are responsible for a note in both octaves. Exactly why I posted this question. I was wondering if the "overblowing" to the second octave would effect the chanter differently. Meaning, if ...

Uilleann Pipe chanter... Same method?
This might be a simple question, but here it comes:
On Highland Pipes as well as other types of pipes you tune the chanter by applying tape on the hole - or carve out the hole if necessary.
Is this the same for the Irish Pipes?

Re: The history of Irish dance
I am not even sure what they are trying to say there but if they think the GAA was formed in 1970 as a sub division of Comhaltas, they cannot even get simple, verifiable facts right. Good points from both of you. I actually find I a bit worrying, that an otherwise very professional looking page, se...

The history of Irish dance
Hello everyone Some time ago, I was playing at a historical event and afterwards I wantet to see, if I could get a understanding about the origin of Irish Jigs. Doing this, I came across this timeline: https://celticsteps.ie/our-story/the-history-of-irish-song-music-dance/ It seems quite valid, I th...

Re: Willie week 2023 : Tribute to Mary Bergin, 4th July
Seems like a fantastic event. I would have loved to be there.
I have heard a lot of Mary Bergins music.
When getting into whistle playing, her music was my first intro.
It would be nice to see some pictures at some point.

Re: To polish or not to polish
This is just my personal viewpoint.
I just think it has to appear clean.
It is like a car - It is easier to sell a used car, if it is washed.

Re: Wooden whistles
I just searched for an MB whistle review on YouTube and couldn't find anything. Not familiar with that maker, but after going through the website, I do get a feeling of confidence that the whistles are well made and the maker knows what they're doing, so probably AT LEAST intermediate quality and l...

Re: Wooden whistles
For future reference (and buying, of course), delrin is a good compromise and quite a few makers use it. My current “go to” is a Paul Busman in delrin - it is full of awesomeness! Just played it almost constantly on a two-day reenactment gig Nice! To use them for reenactment events, are what made m...

Re: Instrument fashion in Irish music
But I tend to think that string instruments are what most people want to learn, and also what is seen mostly. So maby the fashion of the sting instruments, are a bit bigger, or common these days? I am looking at traditional music, not 'folk'(which seems to be making a return as well), if you get th...

Re: Wooden whistles
I ended up buying some of his whistles. I must say, that I like them quite a lot. They dont take much air, they are easy to blow on the high scale and I think they have a good sound. The maker pointet out, to oil a bit often in the beginning and the later in intervals as neded. He also said to be ca...
