Re: Flute stolen!! (Prague)

I am guessing the person that has this flute also contacted you around the same time they emailed me. I talked to a person that knew Ryan but has not seen him for years. I also on the search for Ryan! I hope he gets his flute back.
I assume you have already pm'd him.

Re: Left wrist

I have a similar problem in my left wrist. For me, I believe it is the combination of a few problems. Not only is my wrist bent but my fingers are short forcing me to stretch the fingers with a bent wrist. Either one is not the problem but the combination is. Since the finger spacing can be helped b...

It could have been used like this flute:

Re: Workshop pets?

I know Peter Noy has a cockatiel as his shop pet. It loves to sing along when he plays. It seems to manage quite well not getting caught in the machinery.

Peter Noy states on his website that his flutes are based on Nicholson.

The reed in my Brad Angus chanter is about ten years old. It sounds better than ever.

Re: E flat fingerhole?

Unless your hands are huge I don't see how it would work. The distance the E hole to the center of my Eb key is about half an inch. The distance from the E hole to where my Eb hole is placed is two inches. I would need to stretch my little finger an additional one and a half inches to play it. I kee...

Re: 6 keys...are they really all necessary in ITM?

It really depends on what tunes you want to play and I do not play classical flute, just ITM. Not all all sessions are just ITM that I have gone to, some with a little Scottish, English and maybe some French Canadian thrown in. I did not use them much at first but through the years I have really gro...

Re: Almond Oil

For what it's worth, bore oil (such as Doctor's Bore or Yamaha's) doesn't get rancid, is affordable and is designed for woodwind instruments. I don't know how it works as a skin softener though :really: I use Doctor's Bore Oil and have for years. I use it on a boxwood and on a blackwood flute. It i...

Re: Sealing the holes

And pipes have the benefit of small holes (more easily sealed) and a more robust sound generator (the pressure-driven cane reed compared to our wafty flow-driven "air-reed")! Although holes are smaller I have a harder time sealing them on the pipes than the flute. Perhaps it is because th...

Re: Sealing the holes

As mentioned earlier as I get older, and my skin gets drier, it gets harder to seal the holes. I have the same problem with trying to swipe my phone and touch screens. Moisturizer is my friend. I never used it but I do now, especially when playing the pipes.

Re: What is up with Casey Burns?

He is no longer on Chiff and Fipple but he is on facebook. Go to the flute history channel and do a search using his name. Although he did not like making flutes in Delrin, due to the fumes when machining it, the new flutes are going to be either glass or a type of optical resin that he is able to 3...
