In our session, we often play a jig version of Tam Lin or the Glasgow Reel... don't know if it's been recorded before or whether the fiddler who introduced it 'invented' it himself. It was even taught at a 'boombal TLS'. The ABC file is available for download here: http://www.boombaltunes.be/tunes/a...

My sweetone is rusted too, but I don't mind since it's only a ?7 instrument, but I've just ordered a freeman-tweaked one (hopefully it will finally be my first in-tune whistle !) and that's a little more expensive, ?20, so yea i'd like to use it for at least a year or so this time :) Aren't you allo...

Marvelous !
Wonderful resource indeed. Just what I needed. Thanks a lot peeplj !

Sidenote: there are two threads now about the pitch of whistles... when listening to these recordings I think it quite demonstrates how much they vary =x

Just as the man complaining in this thread obviously (judging from the recordings he posted) lacks the control over the whistle that would enable him to play it in tune (hence the comparison to the beginning fiddleplayer I made above) May I ask you how you can be sure that it is my incompetence to ...

Hmm, fist of all, thanks all for the reactions ! Still, however, I'm not convinced (sorry >.<). My primary concern remains: will the whistles be in tune. I've browsed through the whistle shop page, for instance, and the 'tweaked' whistles improve the sound of the whistle, the amount of air required,...

hmm :/ 'pretty much in tune' is quite vague :p I've bought two of em (first one got worn out ^^ ) and they're both as off-tune... but perhaps I'm unlucky ? Is it possible that some of them are in tune and some aren't ? Anyway, making it tunable by removing the head wouldn't help it as it's not in tu...

Another 'which whistle suits my needs' topic

Hi everyone. First of all, I'm aware there are several similar topics already, but since everyone is looking for something else, I couldn't really find a statisfying answer. Here's the deal: I've been playing a Clarke Sweetone for more a bit more than a year now, and I've been very pleased with it. ...

Well I don't want to bug you with my 'noobism' :) I'm totally not worth spending time on :p I could probably send dozens of soundfiles asking 'how about this', 'is there any improvement already' etc... but I guess I'll have to read the first reply again... I'll simply need to have patience =) But I ...

Imho, just play the way you think it sounds nicest... for example, on my first whistle lesson, my teacher demonstrated playing without tongue (because I tongued way too much - a typical beginner error) so he played through "kid in the mountain" without using his tongue once. Later that les...

You're right steve, I know it's very crappy... after a bit of practice I think I am improving a bit already, but I guess I just need to be more patient and give it time, right ;)

Btw, I have been able to 'isolate' the problem pretty clearly, but it troubles me even more now... Do the following exercie: Hold your left and right hands in front of you, fingers pointed at each other. Now just move your middle and index finger up and down as fast as possible with both hands. See ...

StevieJ: Yes, I know how important that 'swing' is... probably the most important thing when playing jigs. Strangely, with some tunes, it seems to go better than with others... yesterday for instance I listened to a recording of a real virtuoso (17 years old, playing whistle for only a year (and fid...

Thank you all for the interesting replies again. I do understand what you mean, Lambchop, but I can assure you, like StevieJ mentioned, that I am indeed very passionate about the music, and I enjoy playing it tremendously much. I enjoy every tune that I play, be it alone while practicing in front of...
