Sorry I missed your post! The store is called "Southwest Music" and it's located on Menaul, just west of San Mateo by a Schlotsky's deli. North side of the street.

I don't know if it's a western obsession with using finger tips... I just didn't know the piper's grip actually existed. And it's a lot better.

Say... your a keys player, aren't you? Ooo... I am a keys player and play in a classic rock band in town. We gig about 2 times a month and this whole darned flute thing arose out of playing Jethro Tull's Locomotive Breath with a synthesized flute. I luv my keys still, too. And I bet I know why you ...

Heh I thought this was the same as one of my first posts here til I read the title 3 times. LoL I'm afraid I can't help you there. I have a C piccolo and I love it because it's just my size. But I love my low D. It sounds great, too.

welcome to the land of happy fifers and flutists. i would assume you can play any key with just about any flute... after all, there are ways to play all the sharps and flats and all the notes of the scale, it would just be played differently on a D flute than a G flute or a C flute.

There are other discrepancies like size and pattern, too... *sigh* I shall have to see how much people are going to pay for it.

Thanks for the advice. I haven't yet mentioned your signature "Guitarist who got lost" makes me smile. I don't think anything is further from a guitar than a flute... well maybe a basoon (bassoon?).

Re: Flute-6hole or 8hole?

Hmmm, octave. Eight. Wait, let's try this again . . . :-? (Missed you, Tal. Where you been?) Octave is 8 notes. The last note is the repeat of the first, and though it starts the next octave, it is also considered the last note of the previous octave. Circular pattern of music, I suppose.

Well, I gon an' dun it. I bought a flute on ebay I've only seen photos of, and had a sketchy description of. At best, it's the piccolo of my dreams, and with a little love, will give me thousands of hours of joy. At worst, it's a piece of crap suitable for poking the guy next to me when he's not pl...

In this thread: http://chiffboard.mati.ca/viewtopic.php?t=27709 monkey587 claims to have been playing a "Meyer" flute with a weird whole tone scale. Is it possible in this case that the cork was way out of whack? There was no sense of resolution in that thread. I just want to make sure if...

Getting any good at an instrument takes time. I just got my first flutes this weekend and ... it's an adventure. And that's being *very* kind with myself. I'm excited, though. Flutes are definitely something I've always wanted and thought about but haven't invested in til now. I bought an ocar...

I was going to say "just buy it"... but then I saw the tag on it. X_x It's a bit out of my range.
