Plastic whistle cleaning tips???

So this is one reason why you shouldn't leave your window open in the Spring... http://mathewsnatureimages.smugmug.com/photos/887780024_kJQXv-L.jpg (First of all, note how it chose to climb the one flute and stayed clear from the whistles to make its escape to the window.) So, is anyone inte...

Any one interested in a slightly rodent used Dixon low D Flutehead Whistle???

Notice the chipmonk didn't climb any of the two dozen whistles, but chose the one flute, to make its escape out the window.

I've met MANY 50+ people with tin ears that play the tin whistle. It doesn't stop them, so it shouldn't stop you!!! :D But seriously, play and have fun! ... and have fun playing. One of the best things about tin whistling is that (for beginner's especially) the annoyingness of the high pitch covers ...

Hi, There are many whistles that use a 1/2" barrel, but unfortunately switching heads from one brand to another isn't quite as easy as it sounds. Also, putting a D head on a C or Eb whistle (even if it is a 1/2' bore) will not work very well. As I have learned in my own whistlehead making, the ...

Very Nice! It is nice when you find out you have more room for more whistles than you planned!

By the way, thanks for the advice on my velvet-lined whistle case a week ago. It was very helpful.

Yea, sessions are a lot like blind dates. If you go just to have fun that night and meet new people, you likely will have a good time-- even if it isn't a great session. But as the number of 'dates' start to pile up, sometimes you find the session isn't what you thought it was. The (second) best cur...

Indeed. But what about expansion slots ? The middle row and the rest of the row sharing the Susato body were made for generic sizes. So there is room to grow a little. But this collection is all I've ever needed at a session. More would be a drawback. If I need to expand more than that, I would jus...

I designed the original inner tray to fit the whistles shown out of 1/8" birch plywood, padded with 1/4"-3/4" padding depending on the whistle. Each whistle had it's own slot (except for the Susato and my whistleheads). After the velvet cloth on top, they fit nice and snug. Unfortunat...

How about a piece of 'eggcrate' foam, to which you fasten the velvet (effectively making a pillow). That's not a bad idea. I might do that for the top. Because there is so much difference in thickness between the whistles I would rather have separated parts on the bottom. ...On second thought, if I...

Velvet-lining a whistle case

Hi all, Whlie I have enjoyed every minute of building the outside of my whistle case, lining it with velvet and pading has been a nightmare. I was wondering if anyone tried the doing it on their own and can give some pointers or direct me to a website. This is my case: http://img1.imagefuse.com/uplo...

To comment on a good point that there are some excellent players of Generations out there and to clarify my remark on Generations being a "toy": Yes, there are great players out there that get great sounds out of Generation whistles as well as Generations having an excellent traditional to...

Hi all, First off, my respects to all who have posted! This has been a very enjoyable discussion! While my last post was pretty frivolous, I have enjoyed following this thread over the past few days and wish to enter a serious opinion on the actual thread topic: Has the quality of Generations gone d...

The best things about Genreations is that they are worth the money. They are cheap in price, but they are not cheap in quality. Of course they don't all sound as good as a $300 whistle right out of the box. Gens make the best and least troublesome pre-tuned whistle pipes. I wish I could buy 'em head...

If you are looking for a single option that works best for multiple whistles, the best solution is to half hole the B. While not the easiest fingering, it does offer the most adjustable option and adds a lot of natural color to a melody. But don't take my word for it... this tip was passed onto me b...

Small Holed Low D?

Hi All, I have a piper friend who wants to pick up a Low D whistle. His fingers are perfect for the pipes, long and very thin, but is having trouble finding a low whistle with small enough finger holes. He has tried several of my whistles but gets frustrated with the air leaks. Other than contacting...
