Re: Embouchure - the horror!

Just to round this thread off - as part of checking issues I had with both low D and tuning, I checked every key (piece of cling-film under every key, then removed each to see if there was a difference) - result was an issue with my long F - the pads on my flute are pretty hard and the spring on tha...

Re: Embouchure - the horror!

As promised, a clip. Jig of the Dead, Colraine Jig N Seriously, if it weren't for the topic, I wouldn't have even noticed what you are calling side-blowing. To my eyes it's so slight that at first I wondered what you were talking about! It actually came up because a group photo was taken for a band...

Re: Embouchure - the horror!

Thanks for the Kevin Crawford clip - makes me feel a lot better - I think I'll forget retraining, and focus on improving what is already there!

Re: Embouchure - the horror!

Thanks for all the great replies. I've come to the conclusion that retraining isn't required, but knowing what is going on actually will help - I suspect quite often I was unconsciously fighting the side-blowing and trying to centre it and in the process sometimes losing my embouchure. Maybe I'll ma...

Embouchure - the horror!

After playing wooden flutes for more than 15 years and thinking I was doing OK, I noticed i was struggling with bottom D more than I thought I should be. Sometimes it was fantastic, other times I'd pick up the flute and really struggle. As part of my investigations, I finally, years too late, got ro...

I too had a fantastic time at the previous meeting, really enjoyed meeting people like kenny and jem from this board, and am yet another that can't make it this year (three month old baby + wife who's not quite as into the music as I am...) - but to anyone hesitating over whether to go or not, don't...

tootler - I saw that performance by Niall and Harris too - afterwards Niall described it as more like combat as they wrestled the tune off each other, and they ended half way through an eight bar phrase, but it was amazing to listen to!

Absolutely - I want to get one flute, spend some years really getting to know it. The temptation to be a flute flirt is strong, but even after two years I'm still getting more out of my Copley, so I'd rather build a strong interface to one emotion amplifier only :-) (But please don't ask me if I'm g...

Too many choices

I've been converting myself to the wonders of the simple system wooden flute over the last few years, the last two with a great unkeyed Copley blackwood with tuning slide, which I love. However, I really want keys. It seems at the moment I've never seen so many great keyed flutes for sale through th...
