Wow! Galway plays an Abell? How do you know?

He plays Muramatsu flutes and a Lillian Burkart piccolo.

I have a Feadog without a bump and an Acorn with a bump, like an Oak mouthpiece. The Feadog is VASTLY SUPERIOR to the Acorn. I had followed Dale's published advice on avoiding the Acorn with the Feadog mouthpiece. Then I wondered why he gave that advice. But after reading your post, it seems this is...

Hi, James. I think you're the one Franko sent to me for whistle advice. I think if you want to make a 'd' whistle, half-inch tubing is better than 5/8-inch. But 5/8-inch would work for a lower pitch. Also, making a whistle is harder than you might think. Let me know if you'd like to see some of my f...

Really, if you are willing to spend $500 for a Healy 2-piece, spend the extra $85 and get a Copley.

It depends on the size of your refund, but if you are going to be fulfilled and thrilled with this flute, I suggest a nice blackwood one. I highly recommend Dave Copley. Of course, it you want to wait a very long time, you could get an Olwell or a Hammy Hamilton.

Thanks for the suggestions! I know about roundabouts and such from traveling in England. I have a funny story about roundabouts and Lindt chocolate. I was 10. My mom and I laughed for what seemed like hours in the back of a car while the rental car guy tried to give my dad directions out of London, ...

Yup...I sold a guitar and I'm splurging on almost two weeks in Ireland. Yay!! I'm hoping to visit all the whistle and flute makers I can find. I'm going from Dublin to Galway to Clare to Kerry to Cork to a few places and then Wicklow to Dublin again. There might be some more places added at differen...

Although I am a passionate collector of high-end whistles, I have put together an inexpensive whistle with a pure, rich tone like some of the expensive ones. I put a tweaked (cavity-filled) green feadog fipple on the Oak tube that was my very first whistle. I really like it.
