Re: A funny thing happened on the way to the forum!

Dale, I was kicking myself for not asking if you and Marilyn would be around later for dinner or something. But it sure WAS a fun little conversation in 100 degree weather (or something like that). I've been giggling about it ever since. I mean, seriously, how cool! Yes, I have three now. :) And yes...

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum!

I used to live in Nashville, but I moved back to New York 8 years ago. I hadn't been back, but this weekend we are in Nashville for a crafts show I used to do when I lived here. Dan and I brought all 3 kids. I was expecting to run into people I knew when I lived here. But who did I run into? In the ...

Re: C.P. Now Available - Simple PVC Piccolos

Jem, well done! This piccolo plays as well as any I've ever played. Seriously. Excellent tone and tuning, beautiful finish, unbelievable price. I just played a few tunes for my 3-month-old baby and he smiled the whole time. Lovely job.

Re: FS - Murray 8-Key Boxwood Flute

I have seen a number of Murray flutes. Not one of them had a symmetrical embouchure hole. It shows that it's handmade instead of cut with a jig, which is ok with me. I agree, though, about the lack of finishing being disappointing.

Re: FS - Murray 8-Key Boxwood Flute

Oops...I missed the conversation. Um, the warp is a bit less than in the warp picture (the picture magnifies the effect), but I didn't want to mislead anyone. The distance diagonal picture is accurate, but it's possible that there is a bit more warp from a different angle. Banana because it's curved...

FS - Murray 8-Key Boxwood Flute

Hi. I'm no longer pregnant (my third child was born in late January), and I have been spending some time with my flutes again (I never can play very well when I'm pregnant - darn hormones). You may remember that I posted about my experience in dealing with Sam Murray. You can find that thread here: ...

Re: FYI - On Dealing with Sam Murray

I have no problem with the fact that you disagree with me. We are all entitled to our opinions. In fact, this dialog has been very civil. By the way, I own and operate a small business that has been growing steadily for 12 years. I ALWAYS prefer to buy things from individuals rather than companies. ...

Re: FYI - On Dealing with Sam Murray

Had the delays been the only issue, I would not have felt compelled to post about the experience. I EXPECTED it to take longer than he promised. What I did NOT expect were the dishonesty (that he would embellish the flute, and then he did not), the lack of finishing (wood shavings in all holes), the...

Re: FYI - On Dealing with Sam Murray

Ben, you are perceptive about my cat! I have two of them. My husband and children have trouble distinguishing between them, but I can tell them apart immediately, even in the dark, whether I can feel them or not. One of them (Sola) is amazing. She is sweet and good-natured, gentle and thoughtful. I ...

Yes, Julia, I was warned here on the forum. But the major warning, with details, came when it was too late. Oh well.

FYI - On Dealing with Sam Murray

I used to collect flutes. I have owned a lot of them. One maker of great repute got mad at me for selling flutes on eBay that I had bought from him, but I have friendships with a number of other flutemakers. I have not been a hell-raiser of ruffler of many feathers for years. I feel compelled now, t...
