I say just whistle, but this is a bit inaccurate since the instrument is not just a "whistle". Then I like to use the old european name "flageolet", but nobody knows what I'm talking about, maybe it's too old fashioned.

Or you might try a whistle with a different material mouthpiece. Are you playing plastic or metal? Some materials might cause more of a salivary response in some people. I play Susato, so it's plastic, but I don't know how it could affect it since it's not inside my mouth. I tend to hold it just wi...

Saliva problem

When I'm playing the whistle for longer than a couple of minutes I have to stop playing to swallow the saliva that accumulates in my mouth. This is really annoying because it takes just a bit longer to do that (something like a second) than when you stop to take a breath, and it breaks the music. Is...

I have also seen that "chin" you talk about in some 19th century english flageolets. Nothing new.

The construction of Walt's mouthpiece is completely different from that of a Susato. The resemblance is only superficial I say: the difference is only superficial, because the final result is very similar. To me it's very obvious that this has been "inspired" by the Susato, but of course ...

Nothing like a Susato mouthpiece. Looks like Ralph cuts his windway into block, Susatos are cut into the actual whistle body. Sorry, but this looks very much like a Susato. It doesn't matter if the windway is cut into the block or not, the final result when you put it together is the same. Well, I ...

Designed over an 8 month period? It looks like they have done a great job COPYING the Susato mouthpiece. Fair play to them. :really:

I mean a soprano D wooden traverse flute, with no keys or with the old system of keys (pre-Bohem). That's the one I'm interested in.

I have tried many good whistles, and some people try to convince me to get a high-end one, but I haven't found another one that suits my needs better than the Susato.
Of course there are many I haven't tried yet, but Susato is winning so far.
