Re: Experience with Gliga Violins? Advice for first fiddle buy.

I just found out the violin has the following type on the label "nelle officine GLIGA Fecit Anno 458.11.2002 " and I'm told it is a Gems model Gliga. The current price of the Gems 2 is $458 USD and Gems 1 $338. I'm starting to think that $300 AUD is too much for a 6 year old Gems Model. Y...

Re: Well known players who can't read music

Brian Finnigan from Flook doesn't read the dots, but uses ABC to some extent when noting down new tunes. He doesn't give the correct length to notes though (or didn't in his workshops I attended), so you have to have heard the tune to play it right. Turlough O'Carolan was a bit of a harpist by all a...

Re: Cat Friendly house

I presume this sort of house is for people who can't let their cats outdoors? It might be cheaper to move to a more cat-friendly neighbourhood. Our cat is easily entertained by our moving furniture about, or placing a new bag, newspaper or cushion on the floor. He'll always sit on something rather t...

Take Nellie the Elephant - you can play it as a march, jig or waltz.

No idea, though I was 2 years and 11 months old. It just doesn't feature in my memories at all. Maybe we didn't have a TV.

I have no idea why they colored only part of the same notes.
They've coloured notes which appear in more than one place.

Re: British Slang

I don't speak British but I do know that "whack off" means to fire somebody. I heard this in one of my classes where somebody said, "and he was whacked off." I was like, "Whaaa?" I always thought whacking off was something else... Ditto. I think someone's been pulling ...

  I have no idea what they call them these days. My guess is that they have digital now? The sad thing is that I am 21. :tomato: Digital Recorders. I'm not sure you'd find any decent quality machines that still use tape to record on. Regarding the slowing down of recordings during playbac...

Re: An interesting day in good ol' NorCal

Some places still can't take cards this evening. It's amazing just how dependent we are on technology anymore. Redwolf If a mere six optic fibres being severed can cause this much havoc, they'd be a great target for terrorist attacks. I hope NorCal and the world learn from this and provide better b...

Re: I am not holding my violin right

Sorry to hear you're having such problems Duben. I returned to the fiddle about six years ago after a 20-something year break, and it took several adjustments before I found a comfortable set-up. Part of the reason for giving up in the first place was that I never felt comfortable playing. The spong...

You forgot to put an option for:

Next to the Guitar Player who thinks this is a jazz session

and

Next to the Fiddle/Flute player who is bound to prang you at least once with their bow/flute

Re: Do you wear (or carry) a watch?

I have lost at least two expensive wristwatches because I hate wearing one, and tended to take them off whenever possible and leave them lying around. They always irritate my wrist, causing sweating and chafing, and catching hairs. Since losing the last one I haven't carried a watch at all, my mobil...
