Re: Spruce Reeds

I'm in that facebook group as well; some posts of people's results but no measurements or guidance on preparing slips, etc. I'll try searching older threads, and I'll update with links. I'm one of those who posts results ;) Regarding measurements, I've been using almost the same measurements for sp...

Re: Spruce Reeds

Are there any good online resources on making spruce reeds? Obviously there's tons of info for cane, but I haven't found much for spruce. There isn’t much online. There’s a FB page dedicated to reed making (cane and spruce) but it’s not terribly active. I’ve contributed a few posts on my experience...

Re: Spruce Reeds

A friend gave me some spruce which was salvaged from a piano. If you know someone who is scrapping a piano, that’s one option. Alternatively, if you know an instrument maker (guitars, violins, etc) you could ask them for off cuts. If you can make cane reeds, you should be able to make spruce reeds. ...

Re: Is it possible?

As occasionally happens, the airway from my bellows to the bag will occasionally pop out in the middle of a tune. If I'm playing just the chanter (no drones/regs), and if the bag is at full pressure, I can probably play half a tune (ex. 2 B parts) before running out of air. However, I'm usually doub...

Re: Metal Chanters

IIRC, Marcus Coulter made at least one all-metal chanter. I saw photos somewhere on this site.

Did not know this. Interesting. It's a great sounding set, at least in the recordings I've heard. I haven't heard him play it live.

Re: Ebay Items

The eBay post indicates "L Munro", but I'm not aware of any makers of that name.

Slightly OT but I've been told that horses don't like the sound of GHB, and so horses and highland pipers are never near eachother in parades. :o

Re: Capping off a brass chanter top?

No, I haven't seen cork on the top of the chanter top. I was referring to where the chanter top joins the chanter.

Re: Capping off a brass chanter top?

I've seen cork being used to make a seal between the chanter and top.

Re: Well then, let's talk about busking baby.

Where I live now (Quebec city), the city has a big tourist industry. As a result, the city regulates busking. You need a permit to busk, and to get the permit, you have to audition. Once you have your pemit, you have to respect the zoning rules. All too complicated, if you ask me. One thing I've hea...

WTB: Bellows for uilleann pipes DONE

I'm looking for a set of bellows to power a practice set of uilleann pipes. Needs to be in good condition and airtight. Doesn't need to be very big - a set of small pipes bellows would probably do. I'm based in Quebec, Canada.

Re: Willie 50

Lovely photos. Have you considered putting together a book of photos of the WCSS over the years? I'm sure that there would be great interest in such a book.
