blackhall rocks
I think the music for this tune might be included in the "Battlefield Band" songbook which they used to have in our local library. I'll see if I can find it for you tonight. Because the Northumbrian pipes which Ged Foley plays are pitched in "F", you'd need to play it on a "...

Fnats
Tunes using F naturals - Paddy Fahy's your man, also Paddy Kelly, and quite a few compositions by Ed Reavy. One of the few tunes I'd attempt using both F and Eb keys is the hornpipe "When The Tide Comes In", also known as "The Factory Smoke" or, recorded by Martin Hayes as "...

Packie Dyer/Pake Dwyer
The old memory's as good as ever! I reckoned I had heard this name on 2 recordings. I first heard of Packie Dyer on an LP called "By The Hush", recorded by singer Donal Maguire, who still lives in the North-West of England. The record has a track and photo of one Packie Dyer [sic], and he ...

Fintan's "Hidden Track"
It seems the concept of the "hidden track" on a recording isn't as new a phenomenon as it seems - or maybe "Shanachie" just screwed up. I'd forgotten all about this until I listened to the album again. The "hidden" track" is as follows :" The Stone In The Fiel...

Fintan
It was me who posted the Track listings for Fintan's LP on the "Session" website. I took them from the LP sleeve, and believed they were accurate, but I'll check for you tonight and get back to you. Kevin - I'm curious about "2 LPs". What was the other one? I do have a cassette t...

flute players in Scotland
Hi, Aaron, I don't know of any traditional flute players in or near Stirling, although I believe there are a few local sessions going on, which would probably feature a mix of both Scottish and Irish music. There are several good players in both Glasgow and Edinburgh, both of which are accessable by...

piccolos
One outstanding exponent of the piccolo in Irish Traditional music was the late John Doonan from Tyneside in the North-East of England. He has made a few recordings, the best-known being "Flute For The Feis" which came out in the 70s. Most of the tunes on the record were set-dances, which ...

Rudalls
Soon after Flatley became famous through "Riverdance", there was an interview with him in some Sunday newspaper magazine. He mentioned that the only things he carried with him everywhere he went were his 2 [ not just 1 ] flutes by Rudall & Rose. Prices must have gone up some since then!
