Yes, that's the one. I'm still in my 1-week trial return period, so I guess it's still technically for sale thus still on the site. Actually, I know I'm allergic to something in crazy glue as I always get blisters when I use it. I even get blisters in my nose when I'm too close to someone using it, ...

I wanted to add that I think it's easier to learn a lot of things (including instruments) as an adult. You really want to learn, you appreciate the time you find to practice and try to make the most of it rather than just going through the motions because mom wants you to practice for 20 minutes. So...

Museum display

I am so ashamed that I have lived in this little town for almost four years and last night was the first time I visited the county museum (my church choir was singing carols there). I only had a minute to look before we were on (or horribly, horribly "off" in my case), but the museum had a...

By that logic, wouldn't it be impossible for a whistle player to learn to play the flute?

Nothings "unlearnable", just give yourself time, the right tools and patience.

Good luck!

Birthday present was a piccolo!

My birthday present was a Ralph Sweet piccolo! It is exquisite -- rosewood and so dainty! I really enjoy the tone (it is much less shrill than a whistle) and how my fingers can just fly over the holes! I can play it quite softly with good intonation. I'm really enjoying it! Good husband, I got :) On...

Thanks for all the information, y'all. Now I really want one. I'm going to be quite disappointed if my gift is something else entirely!

Anyone have a good mashed potatoes recipe? They seem so easy for the rest of the world but we've never been able to nail them in my household. I'm tempted to get the flakes this year, they have to be better than my usual homemade mashed potatoes.

My holiday tip: go to the rels to eat and make sure you give enough advice for a better effort of it next year. If you didn't have Minneapolis listed as your location, I'd be worried that you were one of my inlaws, that's their strategy. Gotta love them, though :) Jaded, huh? I don't think I'...

I like picc. You can learn to control it so it's not so loud, and the power is there when you need it. Added benefit, it takes a lot less space than a flute, and that's nice in a crowded session. Ralph Sweet makes nice piccolos, and Hammy Hamilton makes naughty ones. I think I'm getting a Ralph Swe...

Chopped walnuts?! Are you a crazy person?! Next you'll tell me you put clams in your dressing! My last avatar was from a picture of me working on the computer, eyes narrowed in concentration. I thought it was a contemplative look, but someone on another board told me I looked 'mean'. For this one I ...

OT: Favorite Thanksgiving recipes and hints

A lot of us will be spending Thursday morning (and Wednesday night!) in the kitchen. Any experiences or knowledge to share? Here's my favorite dish for Thanksgiving. My husband makes it every year and it goes quickly. I could make a meal of just this cranberry sauce on rolls and be very grateful! Ea...

Arggh... If it's that loud then it will sound like static to me for the near future. On the other hand, I might have a chance to drown out the whistler I affectionately call "she who plays horribly loud, constantly rushes and never met a tune she didn't think she could diddle through and figure...

Piccolo appropriate as a traditional instrument?

I have reason to believe that for my birthday or Christmas (they're close) I'll be getting a simple system piccolo in D. I have a C bamboo picc that I love and I'm hoping this will be just as enjoyable playing experience (assuming I get one!). Some questions, though. Would it be appropriate to play ...

Ring finger flexibility exercise

I've been doing this little exercise for the piano and am noticing good things about how much more comfortable it is to hold my flute lately and how much quicker my ring finger cuts are so I thought I'd share. It's called "the Crawl". At a piano or keyboard, with the left hand, you play a ...
