[maternal rant] No! Why do people do these things while driving? And, while I'm on the topic--what is it with women and cell phones in cars? Sometimes I sit at red lights and the green light women zoom around the corner phones firmly planted to ears. Do they ever stop talking on the phone? Ever? Me...

No offence Dave, it's just typical British musicians' cynical humour.

I don't quite understand (?).

It has come to my attention that Phil Hardy has been suspended from this forum for "commercial posting". A number of contributors may know that Phil is a friend of mine but, for the purpose of this post, I would like to declare my neutrality. I have seen the post which "broke the came...

Well, just to confuse you further (or is that farther? :o ) here is one in another key easily played on D whistle. This one is set higher so you don't have to figure out what to do with the low C naturals. Often you can play them an octave higher and it sounds fine. I couldn't tell if it sounded ve...

Re: She Moved Through the Fair

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone could explain to me what the number '3' above the second and third notations here are, does this mean I simply play it three times, or something else all together. http://sniff.numachi.com/~rickheit/dtrad/lookup.cgi?tt=MOVEFAIR&ti=MOVEFAIR&tab=w&key=D A...

It comes from the abs. If you engage your stomach muscles, the air will be faster and more intense, allowing you to go into the upper register. That's how it feels for me, anyway. Absolutely. Any wind player who has been classically trained (and I'm not one of those) will tell you that the sound ha...

Here's another one.

Can't personally vouch for this but it looks promising. The ones that say "Ebano Professional Quena" look, to me, like Alandres.

You could try here. http://www.tiendaslatinas.com/centrocomercial/index.php?cPath=3_31&osCsid=6f8e2c21a0cf8257a00ddf9a4f5434ba I got a good ebony/bone quena from Ivan Alandres on this site. He seems to have returned to charango making and left the quena making to Juan Acha, who is also good. Can...

I have a cousin who between the ages of 3 and 5 went through a phase of picking up random objects and bashing them against tables, chairs, walls, doorframes, people's legs... All the whistle in the house (generations) had funny angles, a couple were right angles and wouldn't play, and one had a sli...

Re: South American Whistling

Does anyone on this board ever play Native South American tunes on their whistles? I'm especially thinking of Andean style music. Are there any online resources for such music? Does anyone have a traditional South American 'whistle'? I really love this style of music (though I'm not South American)...

There doesn't appear to be a "total garbage" category.
