Thank God I am an Atheist. And what makes you think that gets you out of the debate? I am sure there have been plenty of Atheist Protestants killed by Atheist Catholics and vice-versa in Northern Ireland since the start of the modern Troubles. Protestant and Catholic in the North have been fighting...

Re: A question for singers of old songs
I have a very pronounced Dublin accent but if I'm singing a Christy Moore song the accent tends to wander over the county border and become Kildare-ish. That's why I tend to stick with the Dubliners...or Frank Harte.

For some reason, whenever I have to name the six counties (someone in the class inevitably asks which counties are in Northern Ireland), I always forget one. And it's not even the same one! I'll name one through five, then draw a blank and have to look one up! This time it was poor Fermanagh....

Go for it..nothing ventured..... The last line of the last verse is perfect..From the start of the song I was thinking about Ronnie Drew and how he would handle the song..a bit late I know..but that last line..I had a image in my head of Ronnie throwing it out...with a nod and a look. Be proud of th...

Well now that you mention it MT, it was Ships are Sailing at the end of the Mary Black version that I heard.

Re: Paddy's Lamentation (in Gangs of New York)
Interesting problem here. I have heard Mary Black singing the song but that is definitely Linda Thompson on the Amazon link. Frank Harte recorded the song some years ago and himself and Mary Black were very good friends so I assume that she learnt it from him. I've heard Sinead O'Connor singing it s...

Very impressive. Well written and arranged. You should send copies to some full time name bands...I've heard them singing inferior songs.
