Re: Tight joints
I recently had the same issue with a vintage highland pipe I'm restoring. The joint had probably been stuck for many years. I was able to liberate the stuck parts by putting some almond oil into the joint. I used a syringe to get as much as I could into the gap, then let it sit for an hour or so, an...

Re: Sending chanter from USA to Europe - 2 questions
I've used DHL several times with great success. A few years ago, PJ sold me a Hunter Bb chanter and it arrived (from Canada to California) with the reed playing beautifully. I just shipped a Rogge set from California to Wyoming. The temp and humidity in Wyoming are drastically different from here th...

‘Bagpiper’ Uilleann Pipe Case
‘Bagpiper’ Uilleann Pipe Case A popular pipe case for highland pipers is the “Bagpiper” case, which is a quality simi-rigid case with great room and pocket space. They’ve just started offering an uilleann pipe case with Fred Morrison branding. I just acquired one and I really like it. The inside dim...

Re: Bass drone "puck" resonators
I have a Denis Crowley set with a silver-plated brass puck. It is the puck of Gondor.... just huge. It has an ivory ring insert as well.Anyone with a brass resonator puck? Solid or hollow?

Re: Reedmaking and tone.
This week I got a chance to test this theory. About four years ago I bought a new concert pitch chanter from an established European maker. The sound is exactly what I love, very bright with that hollow haunting sound. Nyaaaah. It's had that tone from day one. I had the opportunity this week to acqu...

Re: C#
I recently acquired a Gleeson C# chanter and it plays beautifully with sweet tone. I don't have a lot of use for it in playing with other instruments, but it's very enjoyable to play. BTW, PJ, I'm still playing the Hunter Bb chanter you sold me a few years ago. Another really nice stick!
Cheers!

Re: Contrabass regulators
That said, I don’t have it on the set these days as I’ve yet to find a way to play the set with the contrabass attached that doesn’t obstruct the playing the other three regs in some way. Amen to that. I have a 4-reg CP Froment with the double-bass reg providing D, E, and F#. That reg plays beautif...

Re: Derrick Gleeson’s work
Ha! That's good! I named my Froment "Das Sound Machine" and even had that embroidered on the bag cover.Though I play my Rogge D at sessions (affectionately named the "Earschplittenloudenboomer").....

Pre-1900 Full Ivory Henderson GHB with matching stamped chanter. Henry Starck Brian Boru pipes (3 drones moun...

A couple of vintage pipes
I've arranged to acquire these two pieces. There are several other sets in the bunch as well (Highland Pipes and Brian Boru Pipes). The full set (less bass drone top) strikes me as possibly Tadhg Crowley. The chanter (the one sticking out of the blowpipe stock  ) is a mystery to me. Any thought...
