At a guess I think it maybe a Kerry Songbird?
They are no longer made I don’t think.
I couldn’t find a clear photo of one but there is a few old videos on YouTube.

Re: Rockstro
Interesting discussion here. Just to say Peter Noy made a flute with a 20.8 mm head bore. It was posted on his Facebook account years ago. Like all his instruments it was a beauty with 8 keys I think. I can imagine it was a blaster. I owned another Noy for a while fantastic flute. It had a large bor...

Phil Bleazy D whistle , no slide , reddish wood, possible early one ? Nice Clarke like tone 60 pounds Phil Bleazy Bb Fife , light coloured wood (maple or box?) Great flexible tone , plays perfectly in lower two octaves like an Irish flute , larger holes like folk flute rather than a true fife 50 pou...

Re: Who is this pipe maker?
I wonder where all the Keenan sets are in America and why they don’t turn up on eBay or the likes? I happened to be reading the old Irish American pipers newsletter started in the 70s on NPU archive, The pipers who wrote in usually are beginners a few mentions of Keenan and waiting on pipes from him...

Re: Irish Pibroch or Ceol Mor
Very interesting topic. I’ve heard the descriptive piece the Death of Allistrum described as a piece of Ceol mhor preserved in the Irish tradition but lost to the Scottish. Pat Mitchell pointed out that the March piece derives from the tune “the Pibroch of Donal Dubh” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Dan O’Dowd Egan
Was reading chiff posts of old and found this clip of Dan O’Dowd. https://sounds.bl.uk/World-and-traditional-music/Terry-Yarnell-Collection/025M-C1005X0004XX-1200V0 Does anyone know if this is the original chanter being played? I had it in my head that Dan played a chanter of his own make with the s...

Re: Smallpipes on Ebay
I remember the name of John Rutzen who made flutes, Uilleann and smallpipes in I think Donegal.
I heard he retired. Maybe he moved to Wicklow.
Wild guess at best.
I can’t recall hearing of anyone else who made both small pipes and uilleann pipes in Ireland but I’m sure there would be a few.

Re: Does anybody use a keyed fife for practicing?
In reading your description Bob what you do have is a simple system one keyed piccolo.
The French keyed fifes with a slighter taper are the ones I showed in the eBay link.
I was always curious about the two tuning holes at the bottom of the thing.

Re: Does anybody use a keyed fife for practicing?
Hi Bob, Does yours have the tuning holes at the bottom after the key? Like this example https://www.ebay.fr/itm/Flute-Piccolo-bois-palissandre-19e-s-instrument-fifre-Manufrance-Saint-Etienne/401673972386?hash=item5d85a26aa2:g:AXAAAOSwZ4RcJQkI I’ve never played this type of French Fife/ piccolo. Been...
