Variation on LH piper hold thumb position

I’m getting back into Irish flute playing after years of hiatus on other instruments. I’ve tried all the options for LH and piper hold is the most natural and relaxing for me. One thing I’ve tried recently is a variation on thumb position with piper hold. Instead of sticking the thumb out like a hit...

I'm looking for an M&E polymer flute in D in good condition. I'm in the SW US.

Re: Tipple C flute, part two

Very nice clips! I just got a 3-piece 6 hole D flute from Doug with the eliptical embouchure hole, and I'm very happy with it. Doug should start marketing these as whitewood flutes! :-)

Re: Reviol cast bore flute

I've never had a chance to try a Reviol flute before. Are they closer to a Rudall or a Pratten style of flute, or somewhere in between? How's the finger spacing and size of the toneholes?

Thanks,
Bob

SOLD: FS Kerry Pro Tunable Low D

I have a Kerry Pro tunable low D whistle available for $200 OBO plus shipping. It's in very good condition and has a nice case with a velcro closure. I just don't play it anymore. I will post a picture later. Please PM or email me if interested. Thanks, Bob http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/3956/img2...

Here's what Seamus Egan says about glottal stopping in the Mad for Trad flute tutorial: Glottal Stopping: You will notice that as each note is played, it sounds "seperated" from the previous note. This is achieved by making a guttural " K" sound at the back of the throat. The glo...

I believe he's talking about the F naturals in any tune in Dm on a keyless D flute or D whistle. You would need to half hole them.

I'm aware of the whistle heads that are available, but I was referring to a head that still uses some type of flute embouchure like with a shakuhachi or quena, but on a traditional conical bore simple system flute. I'm still wondering if that would change the tone so much that it's essentially a new...

One tune in Dm played often at my local session is Julia Delaney. That's why I always have a C whistle with me at the session.

I only mention conical bore flutes since they're the most often used in ITM. Basically, I'm wondering if it's possible to have an end blown flute that's similar in tonal characteristics to our transverse conical bore simple system flutes used in ITM. I guess my idea wasn't original. The older I get,...

End blown head for conical bore flutes?

I've still been experimenting off and on with piper hold, and it seems more natural to do this on the low whistle than the flute because it's centered in front of the body. Has anyone ever tried making an end blown head like on a quena or quenacho for keyless conical bore flutes? I'm curious what it...
