Re: Want to play Name That Whistle?

Does the second one look like your style too? I think I got both of those at once.

What is the brand name of your whistles?

Re: Whistles for sale on eBay

Hi Catraeth, would you be willing to sell that two piece separately? I've been interested in that style and unable to find any new. I'm not sure if you are able to PM as a new member but if you are, please feel free to do so, or let me know if you can't. Edit - nevermind, I see you have bids. I will...

I'm glad you're doing well, David! I was worried when I tried to go to your site and found it down.

Re: approximate value of a Laughing Whistle?

For me, the greatest reason to have a telescopic whistle is having a conical (or as close to a conical) whistle, with the properties it imbues. Preferably, low F brass conical whistle. I know copeland used to make them, but, eh, (bleep)... What properties do you perceive that are specific to conica...

Re: approximate value of a Laughing Whistle?

Not to thread-jack, but who else makes telescopers? O'Brien (whose site no longer exists) and Parks used to, but it looks like both of them are closed down now. Hoover is technically in retirement, but he made some for a while and this Youtube video made his popular for a while. He trained a succes...

Re: approximate value of a Laughing Whistle?

Long-time connoisseur of Laughing whistles here. I even have an ebay saved search. Laughing used to be the only telescoping maker on the marker, which was most of what drove their appeal. The rest was the sound which is similar to a Hoover. There are at least two or three makers of telescopers now. ...

Re: This was my Grandfather's. I found it in his things.

Hello and welcome! This board doesn't have the capacity to host files for people. If the photo is already online somewhere you can add a link to its location. If it isn't already online, you'll have to find a way to get it there using an image hosting service like google photos, Flickr, Imgur, or an...

Re: Want to play Name That Whistle?

I might as well update the thread, as I hadn't realised it was QUITE this old now. Top one: Likely a Sweet. I need to ask Izzarina and Redwolf as I believe one or possibly both of them were involved in it getting to me in ~2008. Second one. NOT a Hoover, confirmed by Mack. I believe it and the fourt...

Re: Want to play Name That Whistle?

Hi Greg! Thanks for the confirmation. From around 2006ish makes sense but it might have been from before you were keeping sales records as I think we were in contact already...were you the one that got my mini lathe when I moved, or was that someone else?

Re: Long time away

Avanutria it's great to hear from you and to hear that some folks are doing well. How is the concertina going for you? What kind do you have? Please tell Martin that I never will forget his hospitality and kindness in showing me around London. And, if you don't mind, say "Hi" to Emily and...

Re: Long time away

Hey there, I've only recently returned in the past few months myself. Welcome! Emmline is fine, she is active on my Facebook, as is Redwolf. Martin Milner is also fine but doesn't really do social media at all anymore. I can also attest to Mack Hoover's well being and he is still making the occasion...

Re: Michael Hamilton, tinwhistle maker?

I found the original source of the content of the whistle book.

http://dennishavlena.com/low-d.htm

I reported it to Amazon but it sounds like they won't do anything. Thank you for the information. Sorry to hear about the scams, and I'm glad he was held accountable.

Re: Michael Hamilton, tinwhistle maker?

Huh, interesting. I wonder if the "how to make a whistle" book was even his content or taken from someone else. I'll have to google some of the phrases and see if it was someone's website instructions or something.

Thanks!
