Re: Embouchure help: I'm playing too flat
Another option is to get a lesson or two from a competent teacher. Ideally, it would be with someone who plays a simple system flute but, failing that, even a classical flute teacher could assess your embouchure and approach to the "cutting edge" of the flute. It might save you a whole bun...

Re: Willie week flutes 2023
And kudos to the fashionistas who matched their attire to the mike covers... And kudos also to the photographer. Nice to see Marian Curtin in the mix. Her album, with fiddler Therese McInerney, "The Youth that Belonged to Miltown" has stayed in regular circulation since I got it. Best wish...

FS: Sam Murray Keyless Boxwood Flute — Sale Pending
Offering for sale a lovely Sam Murray Boxwood Keyless flute. Reluctantly selling for a number of reasons: I could really use the funds, I have the proverbial "too many flutes", and am playing a keyed instrument that I really love. So..., sadly, something has to go. This one plays nicely wi...

Re: Raising fingers too high? ( some conflicting advice)
Over the years, I've asked a couple of my instructors about whether keeping fingers low would have any effect on either speed of play or crispness of play. They, independently, fell into two divergent, firmly-held positions. One group, "Yes, definitely", the other "No way". And I...

Anybody (perhaps Elspeth, the OP) know whether the whistle got unstuck?

Re: Stuck
what about the opposite condition — when the tuning slide moves too easily. When the head joint moves in or out or rotates while playing. How to stiffen it up a bit. Either on a whistle or a flute. It depends on how loose the slide is, obviously, but a mix of vaseline and beeswax should usually do ...

Re: Stuck
Now, funny we've just been talking about sticking slides, and suddenly I notice my flute slide getting a bit tight today. OK, I figured, this is not only the opportunity to clean it, but also to take careful notice of what happens when I clean it. So, first to describe how it felt as it was. Hard t...
