Thank you Dave Copley

Hi All, I recently had such a good experience dealing with Dave Copley that I wanted to send out a public thank you. I won't bore everyone with the details, but suffice it to say he did a free warranty repair on my new flute with astonishingly rapid turnaround and grace. He is a class act :). As for...

Hi Bill, I've had this -- and it's very mysterious when it occurs. I've done some conjecturin' on it though. When it is very dry -- and in New Hampshire we've just come out of a crazy arctic cold snap, so the furnace has been drying the place out constantly -- the corks of my Dixon polymer dry out q...

Hi Cathy :)

Thanks for the reply . . . exactly the kind of stuff I was hoping for  . I thought I was the only one who did that kind of thing.

Whew. Crickets were starting to chirp in the balconey of this thread :) until you came along.

Just for the record -- I'm just brainstorming here . . . not trying to be bossy. The forum works well for me too :). But clearly there are issues . . .

It seems like a good model for forum etiquette would that of an open session in a pub: 1) Be friendly; 2) Cheerfully ignore drunks -- and flame warriors; 3) Play tunes -- and comment on topics -- you know with tasteful enthusiasm; 4) Sit quietly and attentively for tunes and topics you don't 5) Don'...

yeah -- I've read the Dixon low whistle/flute combo is only so-so. But my Dixon three piece conical polymer was really what got me serious about this whole thing -- cheap, indestructible, fun, easy and sounds good. That Casey Burns beginner sure looks good though :).

I second what Mr. Eskin says about the Tipple flute -- it's the first one I got -- it was about $25 for the non-tuneable -- and it's what got me into this whole craziness. It's very fun to play and sounds good (listen to Eskin's beautiful recording under the Tipple review thread -- amazing that that...

Oh one more thing (as carpal tunnel sets in from all this typing) . . . Whatever you do, DO NOT be tempted by some of the junk on ebay. I got an eight key 19th century german flute for a couple hundred and its junk. Pakistani flutes, have similiar reputation. Do the research and get a name maker, ot...

Hi Derek, I second what Ben said -- there are several good beginner flutes and a lot of divergent opinions on them :). There seems, however, to be a general career arc for many aspiring Irish flute players: 1) whistle, then 2) a good inexpensive flute 3) initial frustration followed by 4) several mo...

Hey thanks for posting this question -- I'd actually wondered about this myself. It would be ALOT of fun to play some baroque stuff on my keyless Copley. Now if I could just get my brother to take up the cello again for a little continuo . . . Speaking of cello -- I like the suggestion re: Bach cell...

Beginner "Ah-Ha" Moments

Hi All :) Don't you love the "ah-ha" moment when something clicks?. It seems like some of the best posts I've read here arise from such moments -- whether it be an actual beginner sharing his or her excitement about a breakthrough or an experienced player recalling one to pass down. A grea...
