Loren, Pipemakers have been 'reverse engineering' proven designs of existing pipes for generations, changing a few things here and there to make the pipes recognized as their own. Some where already seasoned instrument makers before making pipes, others were just talented woodworkers who liked pipes...

Sheesh Loren, cut the guy some slack.

Lets say it takes a month or two to make a full set of pipes, I'm sure he's been able to do pieces and parts between gigs... might have taken a year to get there, but it's feasable.

I would suggest you contact the music department of your local college to see if there is an instructor who gives private lessons. Explain your desire to be able to improve your ability to 'ear-out' tunes and see what they suggest. I think it would be money well spent to take a few lessons and get s...

Phil, The website is fantastic. Because I have DSL, filesize (to me) is not an issue as they load much faster than they play. I'm looking to see as much resolution and sound quality as you can get. If this brings up a problem with bandwidth, you might have two versions of each file available. Medium...

I haven't found any Beatles sheet music online yet. I did see several guitar tab files and midi files. Yesterday, on the Beatles HELP! album, 1965 words & midi file: http://www.geocities.com/EnchantedForest/Glade/4715/yesterday.html guitar tabs: http://members.tripod.com/~jpgr_beatles/tabs/files...

Jamie, The only negative things I've heard about Cocobolo is it sometimes causes allergic reactions when the wood is being worked. Without proper filtermasks you may have respiratory discomfort. Long sleeves and gloves are recommended when woodturning as some experience posion ivy like symptoms when...

Jamie, O'Grady pipes are traditional style without features that can raise the price. The mounts are wood, the bellows have no padding, the leather straps aren't overly thick. I would consider them to be middle-of-the-road, no frills, but they play in tune and sound fine. Song of the Sea sells his s...

The good news is my Simack chanter was completed last week. The bad news is the backlog of parcels waiting to come to the US hasn't started diminishing... I may not see it for another 2-3 weeks. I was on the phone with Ian Mackenzie for about an hour talking about reeds and volume of chanters. For w...

Brian, Personally, I like blackwood with blackwood mounts and sliver keys (similar to Britton) Because pipes are so hard to see on stage, I think something in a really light colored wood like English Holly would be awesome and show off the set better. Check out some of the pictures on Pipeworks. htt...

Brian, no imagination running wild here. Most chanters require a Cnat fingering to play high C# and depending on the reed and setup sometimes this note requires 'coaxing' to hit it every time. I've seen an extra key on Eamonn Dillon's chanter that plays high C# That would be my first request. Second...
