The Aulos is a far superior traverso, in my opinion. I've had a black walnut Sweetheart for probably 15 years. It's a bit dodgy in the tuning, and very weak sounding. The Aulos Stanesby flute is a very nice traverso. I had mine at Boxwood a couple of years ago, and the Baroque flute teacher, Marten ...

I still wear a brace on my left wrist when I play, 3 years after my initial problems. Icing helped--20 minute sessions. I bought a wrap-around icing thing you put in the freezer. It helped greatly. Make sure to wear the wrist braces at night. Many people tuck their hands under their heads to sleep--...

Keeping thread down on tenons

I did a quick search but didn't find a suggestion. (Maybe I searched the wrong terms.) Anyway, what do you guys use to hold wayward thread down on thread-wrapped tenons? I have a flute in which the thread keeps unwrapping. I use either cork grease or Burt's Bee's to wax my tenons, but that's not kee...

When I received my Olwell Nicholson a few years ago, PO, or someone who works for him, must have used 40 stamps to mail it! They were a whole series of automobile stamps. I still have the box because it has special padding. I thought it a bit eccentric, but fun....

A fun comparison! Who made your Rottenburgh copy? Baroque flutes definitely do have hand stretching issues!

That is one FANTASTIC picture! (Whimper, whimper!)

It would be great to hear a sample of each, but that would be a task....

Thanks for posting the pic!

Nice looking flute collection, Chas! Just out of curiousity: what is the second flute from the top and the sixth from the top (I like the look of the wood on the 6th from the top. Is it rosewood?)

Congratulations on your forthcoming Noy! We'll want to hear a review when you get it.

Yes, I remember Kevin said he'd been at Swannanoa the week before Augusta. Thanks for checking those dates, Cathy.

Hmmmm. What to do, what to do?

Swannanoa?

Does anyone have any information on this year's Swannanoa? (spelling) Yesterday, their website still listed last year's schedule.

Also, any feedback from past attenders would be great!

I just wondered who's teaching this year, etc.

Thanks, Jeanie

Yes, he taught several classes the year I attended (two years ago). In fact, those were some of my favorite classes. Though that was such a good year--Kevin Crawford, Jean-Michel Veillon, Marten Root (Baroque), as well as Chris.

Chris is a very clear teacher, with an amazing sound.
