I don't know anything about Conal O'Grada as a teacher, either. Does anyone have some info?

Conal O'Grada at Boxwood
Boxwood 2009 just posted their information. Conal O'Grada is teaching Irish flute. I went to Boxwood a few years ago, and had a great time--learned a lot. THis is tempting! Plus, the food is wonderful, great scenery....

Calling is better
Yes, e-mailing usually gets no response. Try giving him a call in the morning, around 11-ish Irish time. I was usually able to reach him then.

I agree with Jim. Those players probably won't be able to keep up that awkward playing position for very long. I hurt just looking at players who hold the flute that way. A lot of them will most likely need neck surgery, etc. somewhere down the line. Didn't Jean-Michel Veillon have neck problems for...

I attended Boxwood two years ago. It was a wonderful experience. That year, the teachers were Kevin Crawford, Jean-Michel Veillon, Marten Root (Traverso), Chris Norman (of course) and a few others. You choose which level you believe yourself to be with regard to learning by ear. It's set up so you c...

Last May, I ordered a keyless boxwood from Sam. I believe he said the wait would be about 7 months for boxwood, 4 months for blackwood. I received it in late November, I believe--a bit early. Boxwood being tempermental, it had a tuning issue which he resolved after I sent it back to be fixed. That t...

Nelson, I really wanted to go to the Timber festival. I would especially like to be in the classes of the traverso teacher, Colin St. Martin. But I'm taking a week-long in-service on music and acting for elementary students for my teaching next week instead. Mabye next year! Let me know how the fest...

A Baroque aside--fantastic piccolos!
I know we've got a few people who also play traverso. I wanted to share this fantastic clip of Baroque piccolos playing Rameau's Boreade #2. The players are Amelie Michel and Serge Saitton. According to the discussion on the earlyflute group, they're playing Alain Weemael's copies of I. H. Rottenbur...
