What is ”the Northern flute thing”?

Niall Keegan’s brief review of The Pleasures of Hope: Flute Music from Belfast and Beyond by Harry Bradley & Michael Clarkson in The Journal of Music begins as follows: Let’s face it, if you’re into the northern flute thing or the contemporary and historical fluters who are first and foremost co...

Re: Getting to G minor

Thank you everyone for all of the suggestions. I’ve bought a keyless Folk Flute, so I will start on that and see if I can manage it. (I was already staving off cubital tunnel syndrome before the elbow crack, so the flute is very much an experiment and might not work out.) Pekkos and Steampacket, I’m...

How does olivewood hold up?

I will probably bow to common sense and buy my first flute from a conventional tonewood, but I am extremely concerned with weight and ergonomics due to my injury history and I can’t help being intrigued by olivewood flutes. I’ve read the previous threads here on olivewood instruments (mostly whistle...

Getting to G minor

I am hoping to pick up the Irish flute and plan to start with the usual approach, i.e. a keyless flute in D. So far, so good. As it happens I am a former fiddle player — ”former” because I broke my elbow, which is why I am looking for a new instrument. I am coming from Swedish music, so I don’t know...

Re: WTB Burns Folk Flute for small hands

I’m amending my WTB to Casey Burns standard flutes as well, as long as they are of the small-hand variety. As I understand it it should be possible to add keys to a standard flute later, which could be an advantage.

WTB Burns Folk Flute for small hands

I am looking for a used Casey Burns Folk Flute for small hands. I think my previous post on this topic disappeared in The Great Update. To the helpful person who shared a lead to a used FF on The Session, thanks and it’s already been snapped up.
