Re: Looking to try a low whistle

I'm a big MK fan. Enough people have them that picking up used is very viable. There's a Kelpie low D for sale right now on this forum that may or may not be in your country. The thing with used is that while an MK used may cost more than some cheaper whistles, if you get a decent deal you can sell ...

Re: Hard blow versus soft blow

Peoples definition of hard vs soft blower varies. To me, hard vs soft blower is based on how hard it is to overblow. Which is only useful when comparing whistles of similar air use. My MK vs Reyburn for example. The air use is actually quite similar. But you have to blow significantly harder to get ...

Re: Tweaking a Generation

I had a really crap harbor freight heat gun that smoked when I used it. Worked wonders for getting the heads of whistles off. Way better than hot water. On my Clarke sweet tone it melted the glue so much that it dripped onto the glove I was wearing and I then got it on the mouthpiece lol...

Re: Quiet “discovery”

My solution to hating high whistles was low whistles. But your option is definitely a lot more affordable. Whatever works!

Re: New whistle key or maker?

First- It depends how much you like the maker you have bought from before, and how adventurous you feel. Like if you have an MK, Goldie, etc as your low D and think its perfection, than there's no harm in getting more from that maker. But if you have one and like it, but have some things you dont lo...

Re: The Wonders of Cheap Whistles

My biggest issue with the cheap whistles is that because there's so much out there of people saying they are bad, new players shouldn't start with them unless they know an experienced player who can play it and confirm its a good one. Because new players will generally be bad regardless of if their ...

Re: Collection by maker

I'm always on a quest to try different makers, because you never know if a maker you didn't try yet could be your new favorite. My most recent try was Gary Humphrey, and I really like it (was a low G). I'm tempted to try some others. But my issue is I already have a good set of whistles that I like....

Re: Practicing/playing with different makers

All of my whistles are picked to at least play 'kind of' similarly. They do not play the same. but going from one to the next isnt too extreme. When I had ones that were too far different it would make it harder to switch between them. Which one I play is usually based on what tune or song I'm playi...

Re: Wooden whistles

Another thing with wooden whistles is the upkeep. You need to oil it fairly often, and dry it after use to keep it from cracking. VS my metal whistles, are lucky to get cleaned every now and then lol. I just pick them up, play them, put them down, with no worry. When I had a wooden flute, I wouldnt ...

Re: best low D please UK

Another vote for MK pro.

At least without knowing any preference, what whistles you've played, what you liked about them, what you didnt, etc. Mk's are just well rounded and are easy to like.

Re: Anyone tried the Kerry Busker low D whistle?

The Busker should be fairly similar to the older Thunderbird low D. Its just a wider longer mouthpiece, which should help with moisture issues and be louder. How hard/easy it over blows, and tone, should be very similar. Unless he changed more than he said he did in the videos when he was making the...

Re: Mk Pro clogs in less than a minute

So, not much condensation (in terms of the number of buckets needed to carry it away). But yet enough to lead to blocking. And this is a curved windway whistle, correct? So when turned upside down, its the centre of the windway that's lowest, and presumably concentrating the flow? Is it better to h...
