A selfish beginner flute. F or G?

So, I’ve got a D fife and a low D flute to play with my son (and on good days my daughter). I find that the D fife is wonderfully playful but ear melting and tricky anywhere near the top of the second octave, and really actually dangerous above that... seriously I measured 120 decibels at the bottom...

Re: Looking for a 6 hole D Fife/piccolo In canada

Just a note: I finally ended up getting a polymer D fife from the fife and drum shop. What follows are this beginners comments: First off This turned out to be exactly what I need and I’m very happy with it. It’s perfectly good in the first and second octaves to play with my kids. I am a beginner so...

Re: Looking for a 6 hole D Fife In canada

Given that definition I want a piccolo rather than a fife, in that I want to play mainly in the first and second octaves. Though given that definition, rather more than a few of the “fifes” out there are likely best called piccolos! I’ll be sure to specifically ask in each case! That said, does anyo...

Re: Looking for a 6 hole D Fife In canada

Those would work just fine! Ideally I’d prefer to avoid importing things from outside North America right now since Canadian customs seems to be going through an unusually officious phase (personal opinion based on two data points which clearly don’t constitute enough evidence but I’m going with it ...

Looking for a 6 hole D Fife/piccolo In canada

So I finally sorted out My D flute, with the help of some suggestions from around here... and that’s great... I’m now at least 12% less awful and gaining! Only... now I’m finding that switching between my little Yamaha fife and my 6 hole keyless D flute is... well let’s just say my brain doesn’t do ...

Re: A beginner flute for short fingers?

Thanks all for the suggestions and listings, I have some places to start. For reference (something I should have said in my first post) is that I did get a Yamaha fife. I mostly got this as a proof of concept, to be sure I could even operate an instrument like this, for under 8 Canadian dollars, I f...

A beginner flute for short fingers?

Hello Brand new here, and looking for suggestions on a plastic beginners D flute, something I can take backpacking and kayaking, which I can learn to play alongside my kids who are starting to learn instruments as well. There’s a bit of a catch. I have mole hands. Very wide but with very short finge...
