Re: Just out of curiosity - flute range questions
Cool - exactly the info I was looking for :) YouTube searched and found people playing the Casey Burns Bb and A instruments <3 But as I suspected, probably too big for my hands, so I'll have to think about that. Maybe a Bb down the line. I'll save up for a D. I'm not waiting just to let the idea mar...

Just out of curiosity - flute range questions
I was given TONS of patient advice in the Whistle forum and am eagerly awaiting the arrival of a starter whistle in high D. I started on Boehm flute but didn't stick with it after college - I'm in my mid 40s. Down the road I'd like to give a simple system flute a try. However, my budget (partly infl...

Re: Fiddle tunes for viola or mandola - free collection, iPa
Ralph - I found your collection posted in a format I could put on my PC by sleuthing around elsewhere - thanks :) Thomaston, if you're on Facebook, you can get a link to Ralph's google drive by searching for it in the American Viola Society group (if you're a viola player I guess, I forgot where I w...

Re: Range/jargon comparing to concert flutes - several quest
Thanks I ordered it. I accidentally checked out as a "guest" so I won't be able to obsessively check the tracking number, but I read a lot of good things about the seller here in this forum, so I won't worry.

Re: Range/jargon comparing to concert flutes - several quest
Ok, thank you everyone - this is *probably* my last question. In light of all of the information shared, my financial limitations, and my interest in learning the fingerings before anything else, I'm going to go for a high D whistle. This might be a dumb source of influence, but... I see generation ...

Re: Mandolin
I don't know if this counts as ITM - I grew up believing it to be an Irish folk song, but my favorite rendition is a Scottish musician's (Bert Jansch). I play mandolin and sometimes try to transfer something from guitar if it really grabs my heart. I started as a classical viola player so there are ...

Re: Range/jargon comparing to concert flutes - several quest
Yes a vintage flute but in what key? It could be in F, in Eb, or in D. The best value in a keyed flute for Irish music are the various Delrin/polypenco flutes by the leading legit makers- there are some for sale on this site now. Here's one http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=...

Re: Range/jargon comparing to concert flutes - several quest
So here's a keyed simple system item that I could afford - if this is my price range, is flute too "iffy"? I'm thinking given financial limitations I'll heed the advice above and go for a whistle. https://www.ebay.com/i/233375704795?rt=nc&_trkparms=aid%3D1110001%26algo%3DSPLICE.SIM%26a...

Thank you everyone - I was a little under the weather and completely forgot that I'd posted a query here - so I wasn't checking back for new replies.

Range/jargon comparing to concert flutes - several questions
Hi. I am a viola/mandolin player but played concert flute as a kid. I have the flute - I pull it out sometimes, but that kind of music doesn't do it for me anymore. I like the fingers-on-open-holes sound of Irish flutes and whistles, but am a little intimidated about attempting to switch from flute ...
