Re: Hard blow versus soft blow
I wonder if clogging is something to do with individual body chemistry. Perhaps wet blowers just have something in their breath that causes more clogging by causing moisture to bead up in the windway/bevel. I believe everyone has roughly the same moisture content in the breath coming from their lung...

Re: Hard blow versus soft blow
((I also found the clogging issues go the opposite way around ... the MK clogs like crazy no matter how well warmed up, the Goldie only needs clearing between tune sets. It's possible this is related to the amount of effort a particular pair of lungs needs to make.)) It’s comments like this that con...

Re: The Wonders of Cheap Whistles
Mine is the Feadog Pro. The upper octave is way too raspy and the upper G is pretty much unusable. There must be a lot of variation with these as I can’t imagine anyone would like this one. A long time ago I had an Oak high D and that played ok for me.

Re: The Wonders of Cheap Whistles
It never ceases to amaze me how differently people hear whistles. I bought a Feadog D about a month ago to have an inexpensive whistle for when I travel, since I didn’t want to take my expensive Midge. I just played it for maybe ten minutes and it’s not even good enough to bother to take when I fly....

Selling my low D’s
I’ve decided to sell my low D’s. My hands can’t handle playing them anymore for longer than ten minutes or so. Fortunately, I recently bought an MK Midgie and adore it. I play it two or three times a day most days. I just posted my essentially new, mint Goldie .97 soft blow low D, and I’m also selli...

FS: Goldie .97 soft blow low D
A pristine, hardly played Goldie .97 soft blow low D for sale. Hardly played, for maybe three hours or less. With soft case. I got it December, 2022. It sounds awesome, but I couldn’t adapt to playing it. My hands are beat up from many years of mountain biking and climbing, and Low D’s are too much ...

Re: Practicing/playing with different makers
For high whistles I find it easy to switch from one make to another, even from one tune to the next. With low whistles I find it more difficult. I’ve decided to stick to MK Pros for low whistles. I’m going to sell my almost unplayed Goldie .97 low D for that very reason. I’ll post it here soon and p...

MK Pro is my favorite, but Goldie whistles are wonderful too.If you’re new to playing MK will probably be easier for you.

Re: You're stranded on an ireland...
I just ordered a McManus blackwood D whistle. We’ll see if I’d take that over one of my MK whistles, or would a wooden one be a bad idea to bring to an uncharted desert island?

MK low D, MK low F, and a MK midgie. The best three whistles I’ve played.

Re: Mk Pro clogs in less than a minute
My music is really cold in the winter. I have a small electric heater I turn on when I enter, and warm the whistle I’m planning to play in front of it. It works great. Every couple of tunes I do it again, plus my hands if they need it.

Re: DHL disaster
I doubt you’ll suffer any loss, Big Whistle will take the hit. UK shipping (Royal mail) has been a nightmare for months. First strikes and then a cyber attack that took down their system. I ordered an MK low D in later November and didn’t get it until mid January, and never received any shipping inf...

Re: Mk Pro clogs in less than a minute
I played my MK Midgee and a Generation Bb this morning without warming them up. The Bb is the only plastic headed whistle I own. Both of them developed a burble in the tone after playing a tune or so. The Gen developed one sooner, but I’d call it a draw. Both of them still played, just not as cleanl...
