Re: Smart phone/Tunepal aided playing at a session

Thank you for you quick responses. I am really glad to hear the young fellow is coming to those sessions. As a musical player I have experienced situations where the younger folk have been made to feel very uncomfortable to the extent of embarrassment with the result being staying away. It makes me ...

Re: Smart phone/Tunepal aided playing at a session

As a beginner I was really hesitant to respond to this thread but after getting feedback from close friends I felt it necessary. I am a senior and decided to take up this lovely Irish flute wind instrument about 14 months ago. I have loved this flute to listen to since my teens. I’ve played the mand...

Re: Keyed Flute learning tips

Thanks for all the feedback. Your all so welcoming!
I find the Copley and Boegli flute quite easy to play! The keys though as expected will be kind of a struggle! I guess slow, patience and humility!
Do you think the basic Bohm Trevor Wye books would be useful?

Re: Keyed Flute learning tips

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I also like Jazz and Klezmer! That is what motivated me to be “crazy” enough to pursue a keyed flute. By the way I purchased it from Blayne at the Irish Flute Store. He was wonderful very helpful to recommend an appropriate flute. The purchase and delivery ...

Keyed Flute learning tips

I purchased a Copley and Boegli 6 Keyed flute! I should be receiving it today!! Any tips to help me learn to use the keys would be helpful. Ideas? Tunes to begin with? Online learning? I also want to venture outside the ITM repertoire but not to insult anyone.. I am excited to enter that rabbit hole...

Re: Eb Key and /or C thumb hole

Thanks for all your responses. I actually come from a classical mandolin background and would like to be able to play scales outside the ITM genre. I am used to playing anything from folk to classical to jazz and klezmer on my mandolin. Conical Bore, do you still play mandolin? It is a long waiting ...

Eb Key and /or C thumb hole

I was wondering what are the thoughts of these on an Irish flute? Are they worthwhile to have. I also play tunes that are note ITM however I don't want to get into complicating matters and going for 6 to 8 keyed flutes! I will never be that level of a flute player! Thanks and I am open to any recomm...

Re: Looking for a mellow sounding tin whistle

Forgot to mention! I purchased the Killarney hi D.
As this is my first whistle I decided to go with the most popular and recommended.
I started with a Windward Irish keyless D flute just about 1 year ago and continue to love the journey.

Re: Looking for a mellow sounding tin whistle

I decided to purchase a Killarney whistle after rambling through all the youtube hype! It took about 1 month to receive it in Canada. It is truly as good as most of the reviews have stated. It is a “finely” made instrument. It is pricey but considering the included well made carrying protective case...

Looking for a mellow sounding tin whistle

I took up the Irish flute 9 months ago and really enjoy it. I would like to get a whistle now. I prefer one that is mellower in sound as I will play it by myself and in a smaller room. I would like to avoid the high trebly piercing sound quality if at all possible. I also want one that plays true. I...
