Re: The New Kerry Busker High D is Quite Impressive
CyberKnight, would you say the current high D Busker is highly expressive, as in can convert a lot of wind dynamics into many variations of tone, volume and effects? Phil Hardy has mentioned that a few times, but he doesn't do video reviews comparing Busker/Thunderbird with specific other whistle mo...

Re: Blue Tac or Better?
It's very easy to over-think this problem. I have worked with Shoe Goo and resin epoxies on other applications, and they can be very difficult to work with in tight spaces. They are both very viscous and almost impossible to clean off from unintended surfaces. If you get any on the blade or windway...

Re: Low F, G, A questions
From all the player reviews I've ever seen of whistle models in different keys, if you seek the richer tone of the alto and lower whistles, certainly the G will be far more similar to the F than higher keys. Typically the A will also have a richer tone, but you should check that out model by model. ...

Re: Pocketable Whistle Suggestions?
Last night I watched an hour-long documentary on the career of The Chieftains. Paddy Moloney at one point said he always carries around a whistle in his pocket.
Have you considered sewing in a new pocket more suitable for carrying whistles?

There's another gel that dries to a solid, and generally dries to the same size as it was when wet; it goes by various names, it's the gel sold in tubes you use to patch shoes. The brand I get around here is "Shoe Goo", and I've also seen "Goop". See image attached. Once put in p...

Re: Volume Control Ring - Why Doesn't it Exist??
Another approach might be to divide the windway into 2 channels, so the tongue or embouchure can choose to use one or more channels at any time, which decides how the wind aims. Use all the channels for regular playing and one particular channel if you want that louder result. Maybe one channel prod...

Re: Best Penny Whistle?
Cillian O’Briain tweaked Generation hands down for the budget mentioned. If you have a box of Gens to play thru may be able to save yourself a couple bucks that way but as a beginner you probably won’t know what your looking for so pay the extra money for one of their tweaked whistles. I can't imag...

Re: Easy way (app) for adding reverb while recording?
The simplest, easiest solution is to play in a bathroom, kitchen, concrete stairwell, etc... AW My favorite practice space is a 6-story high stairwell at a university nearby. I sit where the 4th floor landing is, and there's a clear open column about 2 feet wide up the middle of the whole stairwell...

Re: Easy way (app) for adding reverb while recording?
Hello RoberTunes! I am very much impressed by your answer, but wow - dry signal, DAW, EQ... I honestly understand little of all that. :o I should have mentioned that I am a talentless, amateurish noob when it comes to music, my "productions" are really simple, stupid stuff: me playing (ba...

Re: Easy way (app) for adding reverb while recording?
If you want the right type and amount of reverb added for each track and tune, I'd suggest being able to customize that, which probably means applying the reverb as Process #2, after recording the dry signal first. For instance, you might have a song with 5 instruments, and want different levels and...

Re: Advice on using a whistle with a solid lead block on fipple
I like the epoxy idea. Some epoxies are just "epoxy" on the bottle, some are blends and some are "epoxy paint". A possible remaining problem is the windway remains uncoated and while you are almost uniformly sending air outwards into the windway, not inhaling through it (actually...

Re: Advice on using a whistle with a solid lead block on fipple
If you do eventually decide to use some sort of coating to seal the lead away from absorption into the mouth and then brain and then eventually running down the street claiming to be Emperor in search of a legion of chariots, I'd recommend checking out the strongest types of paint out there, and for...

With ideas that seem to have merit but haven't been realized in a product yet, I'd say, make one and see how it goes. One idea can lead to the next as experimenting proceeds.

Wow, I have no idea how I overlooked Shearwater! They have an E whistle for the same price as Susato, and it looks to be a much better instrument. Now I'm curious: Anyone on here have a high Shearwater whistle, like a high C, D, or E? I'm actually really tempted to buy one of these but it's hard to...

Re: A New Instrument... the Pianoflute! (Anyone want to make it?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubVw_4w0ppM I often wonder why there's no such thing as "fipple bagpipes." If attaching multiple reed instruments to a bag works so well, why not attach multiple fipple flutes to a bag? I bet that would sound cool. Because bagpipes were invented as a weapon...
