Re: MY HARMONICA JOURNEY
I've gotten intrigued lately. After fooling around with a used Golden Harmony I decided to buy a new Special 20. I came across a shop wanting to get rid of old stock and and so bought seven; all the common keys except A and some uncommon for a good price. I'm working with the Dummies book. I used to...

Re: Instrument Stands for Whistles
A renowned violin bow maker in Port Angeles passed away and a fretted instrument maker I know was liquidating his workshop. I picked up a number of things including racks that he used to hang his bows. With a 90 degree rotation they make nice whistle stands: https://scontent-sea1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1...

Re: I bought NINE whistles today
OK, I am insane. There is no use denying or rationalizing. In the photo below the horizontal 19th century flageolet and the Parks C, D pair were the only ones I had for a number of months. Left to right the recent additions are: Mack Hoover low E Marek Bzowski wild pear sopilka, key of A Mack Hoover...

Re: Roland Aerophone Mini
Thanks. Just got back from a few days away with my wife for our 44th anniversary. Your explanation was very clear and it made sense when I got into the app.

Re: Roland Aerophone Mini
Traceyatsea, you wrote, "I've reconfigured the fingering slightly (through the app) to match typical whistle fingering" I got into the app thinking that under key of C I would simply change F to F# and C to C# in order to keep the root in the proper D whistle position but could not find an...

Re: Roland Aerophone Mini
I talked myself into it. Made an offer on a Roland Mini on Reverb and it was accepted. So I'll want to compare notes in the future. I'll post observations and questions on this thread.

Re: Roland Aerophone Mini
I'm an acoustic snob who came to appreciate electronic substitutes. Playing drums with my last band we were on some very small stages. One place, Nextdoor Gastropub, where we played at least once a month had a stage six feet deep and twelve feet high, sort of a balcony without a railing. Any drum se...

Re: I bought NINE whistles today
Whenever I start with a new instrument I follow the same pattern. First I get something inexpensive but fully functional to try out. Then as my interest grows I look for good deals in order to try many well reviewed examples of the instrument. I'm not looking for a particular thing because my knowle...

I bought NINE whistles today
I've been playing a Parks ABS which I bought from a forum member a few months back. I wanted to try something else and had some money from a mandolin I sold. I had contacted Charlie of Whorfin Whistles just as he was about to post his seconds for sale and ended up with three D's and a C in boxwood, ...

Re: Whistle and flute roll
Walker & Williams also has a discontinued roll / bag (DSB-2, DSB-1 shown above) at $64 with pockets for eight twenty inch whistles / sticks and two utility pockets. It rolls up and goes into a canvas bag. I found one on Reverb offered for $60. As it had been for sale for five months the seller a...

Re: Whistle and flute roll
A spanner roll might work nicely for some. Stick bags can readily be found to accommodate 20" mallets though a few only do 16" sticks. https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/p960x960/81994699_10218722832355066_7466535047613382656_o.jpg?_nc_cat=108&_nc_ohc=rniyQiuAoFYAQkEKOxDWK3m...

This may be the winner. $129 but all leather and brass. Holds a dozen so I'll have to buy nine more. https://www.amazon.com/Walker-Williams-DSB-1-Cowhide-Leather/dp/B07FMHP9B6/ref=sr_1_37?keywords=stick+bag&qid=1577767110&s=musical-instruments&sr=1-37 https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...

Re: Whistle and flute roll
I want to get one, figured I'd adapt a stick bag. Bags for drum sticks and mallets generally are around 18" long. they are designed to be hung up, usually on a floor tom for easy access. Does anyone use one of these? https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/p960x960/80753429_10218721984213...

Re: Whistles @ Dickens Fair @ the Cow Palace, San Francisco
It sounds lovely but the trade off would be you’re in the car anytime you need anything or want to do anything musical. Remarkably, we are 3 1/2 miles from a Costco. We're near the top of a hill surrounded by 5 and 10 acre parcels at 500 feet with Sequim downtown at 300 feet, a 1 1/2 mile from our ...

Re: Whistles @ Dickens Fair @ the Cow Palace, San Francisco
We moved here to Sequim over eleven years ago. Having always been suburbanites the quiet was striking. We're a quarter mile off a little used road, surrounded by trees, even the radiant floor heat is silent. We quickly grew to treasure the silence. The only street lighting nearby is designed to prev...
