Re: Olwell 6 Key fs

Hello

I sent you a pm yesterday about the flute. If you didn't receive it I am interested in finding out the price and location of the flute.

Re: Somers flute blows flat

Have you measured the position of the headjoint cork to make sure it is the correct distance fro the center of the embouchure?

Re: Flattening the second octave

Sometimes people blow harder as they play the 2nd octave, which sharpens the notes. The blowing pressure should remain the same as in the lower octave, but your embouchure needs to become smaller to increase the speed of the air. Air speed needs to get faster as you go higher but you don't blow hard...

Re: Flute Crutch?

I should also point out that there are a number of flute supports designed for classical players and some just use adhesive backed foam to prevent the flute from sliding off the support knuckle.

Re: Flute Crutch?

Eamonn Cotter showed me a left hand support he was using and I copied . It is made of rapid hardening denture putty. You mix up a large lump of it, put it in the saddle between your thumb and 1st finger, molding it to support the flute. I can email you a pic if you post your email address

Re: What is an Irish Flute (3) - Irish Flute vs Boehm Flute - Timbre & Tone

I play a couple of metal Bohm flutes with the original metal heads and a couple of modern wooden headjoints I have. For the last 7 years or so I have mainly played a wooden Haynes from 1919 pitched at 435 hz with the original headjoint and pitched at 440 if I put one of the modern wooden headjoints ...

Re: How much for a Boosey Pratten and is it worth it?

I have a Db transposing Boosey & Co. Pratten from around 1912. It's made of Ebonite, nice tone and very much in tune.

I might be interested. Can you tell me which keys have been added and where the flute is located in the US?

Re: How does ITM sound on wooden Boehm flutes?

I play a 100 year old wooden concert flute from Haynes. I think the tone fits in a little better with Irish music and I particularly like it for airs, although you can forget finger vibrato with it. My flute is low pitched- 435Hz and not as bright in tone as my other flutes. I do have a modern cut t...

Re: Flute tuning problem. Please Help!

I play a 100 year old wooden Haynes Boehm flute pitched at 435. I have had to work hard to bring the pitch up to 440 , especially on low C - E. I handed the flute to a professional classical fluter and she ran it through 3 scales at 440 without problems. If you develop your embouchure to that level ...

Re: Help understanding higher-pitched flutes

I assume by higher pitch you mean a flute in a higher key that D on a different octave range, not a flute pitched higher than 440. Here is an example of a keyed flute in F you might like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYREXxIbKI0 . The maker is listed in the description.

Re: Grinter 8 keyed flute....possible sale

I could be interested in it for $3,000 USD but shipping it to the US requires dealing with current CITES regulations for commercial sales. Are you willing to deal with that?
