Re: Andes Whistle vs Tin Whistle
yes. You can learn a D tune on a regular D whistle, play the same tune using the same fingerings on a low D whistle, and it will be one octave lower. You can play the same tune on a C whistle, using the same fingerings, and it will be in the key of C. Whistles are known as "transposing" i...

Re: Andes Whistle vs Tin Whistle
I see/hear people playing Andes music on larger wooden whistles. I like the deeper tone ( not shrill) produced by these larger wooden whistles. Are these considered tin whistles ? Mine is brass and produces more of a shrill sound which my wife hates ! :) To get a deeper toned whistle do I need to b...

After Playing Two Weeks !
Just beginning the tin whistle and making progress ! What I have found out so far is "less is best" with regards to amount of air I blow into the whistle . What I am surprised about is the amount of times I have to run a cleaning cloth into the whistle brass tube to absorb the saliva /mois...

Re: HELP ! Newbie Needs Guidance ! :)
The slide is for fine tuning. If you have a Iphone or android you can get an app for tuning. I use Cleartune. They used to sell a lot of stand alone tuners, but you don't see them around that much any more. If you don't have a phone you could pick one of those up. The Korg is pretty inexpensive I t...

Re: HELP ! Newbie Needs Guidance ! :)
With my limited experience with a tin whistle, my only complaint is how often I have to run a cleaning rod through it to eliminate moisture/saliva so it can be played ! I'm sure this varies with each individual however.

Re: HELP ! Newbie Needs Guidance ! :)
Am I missing something ? C# all open holes ? Not saying my sound is perfect but it doesn't seem that bad going from a B to C# ! I had more trouble making a D sound with all holes closed as I was just blowing too hard and practicing to blow softly. For one day of practicing I think I am making pretty...

HELP ! Newbie Needs Guidance ! :)
I have my whistle ( Killarney) brass D ! With a D whistle I can only play songs in key of D ? I have sheet music "The Old Man" in key of G and the music sheet shows the fingering on the whistle but playing these finger patterns on my D whistle results in a sound that is just not right, so ...
