Re: Aulos Tenor Recorder Identifying

The Saunders Recorder (UK) page has lots of information. Attached is link to information on older Aulos Recorders. http://saundersrecorders.com/oldaulos.htm

Re: What gives flutes/whistles/recorders their distinctive signature sound?

From the Antique Sound Workshop (Dave Green) site article on the effect of wood choice on tone: It may be seen, then, that the choice of wood does indeed have a definite and predictable influence on tone, although we are only now beginning to understand how to measure and interpret those differences...

Re: Tenor recorders

I have a Kung Studio tenor in cherrywood and I find it very easy to cover the holes. I believe the Huber Model II is also very ergonomic. These are going to be sort of an expensive option though. I had patronized one recorder dealer (ASW) for many years and was given a 25% discount on any purchase o...

Xaphoon And Its Fingerholes

Photo Nanohedron posted is a bamboo Xaphoon. Not sure what that is in original post. Something of the same ilk. Xaphoon has a interesting tone. I imagine a chalumeau might sound like it. I never really played it much. The top hole is for left index finger. Left thumb hole is between first and second...

Re: Recorder player wants to learn a louder, buzzier instrum

How about a bawu? From Wikipedia: The bawu (simplified Chinese: 巴乌; traditional Chinese: 巴烏; pinyin: bāwū; also ba wu) is a Chinese wind instrument.[1] Although shaped like a flute, it is actually a free reed instrument, with a single metal reed. It is played in a transverse (horizontal) manner. It ...

Re: Please Help ID This Recorder

I agree with MichaelLoos that this is not a recorder. Recorders, at least for the last 400 years, have a beak mouthpiece and they never had extra tuning holes. It is a a fipple flute of some sort though.

Always dreamed of Elody but like eCorder will wait until I win Lotto. I have a few Mollenhauer recorders and know they are good but mortgage comes first...

Re: A Kickstarter Electronic Recorder?

Re WARBL I will investigate further and no criticism intended if I misunderstood capabilities. Fingering chart online only showed range of ninth. Overblowing on whistle is much different fingering than recorder fingering for higher octave though. My main point was that I want something that is exact...

Re: A Kickstarter Electronic Recorder?

Thanks all, for your comments. Again, I approach this as a recorder player so the question of how alike the instrument's fingerings are to standard recorder fingerings is of importance. The second octave and above fingerings on a recorder are based on lower octave harmonics. You don't just press an ...

A Kickstarter Electronic Recorder?

I have no vested interest in project. It looks interesting and I signed on. Your opinions sought. Here is the Kickstarter address: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/888369457/the-recorder-reinvented. It is called a "re.corder". The premise is that they take a soprano recorder and electr...

Re: thumbnail chip in thumb hole on alto recorder

It's hard to re-learn (or un-learn) technique if you have been using it for a long time. I never used my thumb nail in the thumb hole though as the place I get all my recorders specifically warns against it. Rather he recommends rotating the left wrist towards the player and rolling the thumb slight...

Re: Adler tenor recorder lever spring

Hello There are some woodwind parts sites on the web, like this one (never used it, no endorsement): http://instrumentclinicusa.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=13. The critical dimension is probably diameter, you'll need a caliper/micrometer to be accurate. Anthony Baines in "Woodwing Instr...

Re: Aulos tenor recorder models - "Symphony"

If you add a key to an instrument that wasn't originally designed to have a key make sure you check the tuning of the instrument. There is a fingering technique called shading where you hold a finger in the air stream above a hole (about the distance of an open key) that slightly flattens the note (...

Re: Aulos tenor recorder models - "Symphony"

The UK Amazon site had a comment that the E was an older discontinued model, replaced by the B. My guess is that the instrument is marked with the type fingering it follows. G would be Geman fingering. E would be English/ B would be Baroque, which are the same. English /Baroque fingering is to be pr...

Re: Looking for a keyed tenor recorder

Many years ago, after playing alto recorder for a while, I decided I wanted to try tenor. I went to either Sam Ash or Manny's Music on 48th Street in Manhattan and asked the guy at the band instrument counter to let me see the Yamaha tenor on the shelf behind him. He kept telling me to go away, the ...
