Silver rings falling off
Here in in Melbourne, Australia it is very dry. The silver rings on my Sam Murray African Blackwood flute keep dropping off. In the past I have mentioned this here and the suggestion is to store in a box and humidify. I use the excellent Stretto humidifier bags. But if I keep the flute outside the b...

African blackwood surface finish deterioration
I have a very good simple system keyless flute in African Blackwood from Sam Murray. When I bought it the finish was shiny and perfect, with no visible grain porosity. Now about three or four years down the track the surface finish is all dry, and the open grain shows badly, and it looks shabby and ...

Re: 3d Printed 6 key flute
I think it's fabulous. 3D printing is coming of age. Not sure I understand by Blaine suddenly slathers on the reverb for the Bach though. Somewhat strange. I'd buy the eight key model when it's ready for sure. [But no, I have not tried it, but I really support the concept.] There seem to be two here...

Re: Request your thoughts on D'Almaine - London 8 key Cocus Wood Flute
I have a D'Almaine flute possibly very similar if not identical to the one you are describing, restored to perfection by Arthur Haswell. It's simply divine. It's a fairly soft flute, so it may not really be suitable for bashing out a tune in a session - I don't know, since covid we have no sessions ...

Re: Loose silver rings
Thanks all. I have pulled my Stretto Humidfier and Hygrometer from my violin case and now the flute is in a plastic box with that. Will order another set for the violin. Suprisingly good device, the Stretto. Hygrometers are notoriously inaccuate but this one is consistently within about 4% of my bes...

Loose silver rings
I have a superb Sam Murray blackwood flute. Down here in Australia it's pretty dry. Over the years a couple of the silver rings have become loose and tend to fall off, due to shrinkage of the timber I assume.
What is the remedy for this? I am reluctant to glue them in place.

Re: Carbon fiber bansuri ebay
Assamese bamboo my foot. Refer to the C&F thread about ebay flutes I think.
If you want a bansuri there are some very fine makers and the prices are usually quite reasonable. Get one from a proper worskhop in India.

Re: Carbon fiber bansuri ebay
It's a BLO. Bansuri like object. Has a raised lip plate, which bansuris do not have.
I can't see the advantage to using high tech carbon fibre when bamboo is perfectly good, and in fact ideal. Though the special bamboo that is used in India is admittedly hard to get outside of India.

I think is just very very new. Not many people would have one yet. I just had an email announcing it come.

Re: Introducing myself. Hello everyone!
Welcome @StevO! There's so much that can be learned here. There are strict rules against medical discussions for obvious reasons, but I just wanted to mention that I also have diabetes which has become unmanageable to the chagrin of myself and my Professors of Endocrinology. I have a scientific back...
